OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW

It’s a perfect time to renew everything.

Including my makeup bag. I’ve been having the green makeup bag from Muji like forever, if it can talk, it’ll say ‘enough’. So, for 2013, I’ll go for metallic makeup bag from MAC (from Magic, Mirth & Mischief Collection).

Used to carry a lot inside my makeup bag, it was bulging and not to mention, heavy. So I cut down a few pieces and replaced them with double duty beauty products.

What’s inside my makeup bag for the upcoming year?

–       Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat : I carry concealer every day, to retouch under eyes makeup and side noses. It won’t crack over foundation & powder.

–       Kate Spade ‘Pop’ Lipstick Crayon : Always carry two lipsticks, one for night and one for day. I use this convenient lipstick crayon for night look (sometimes for day too, depends on the mood).

–       Soap & Glory ‘Naked Beige’ Lipstick : Now, this is my serious day lipstick when I want to be under the fabulous radar. LOL.

–       The Body Shop Lily Cole ‘Pink’ Lip & Cheek Dome : Double duty, and I don’t have to carry my blush brush anymore. Just dab and pat. Love it.

–       RMK Pressed Powder : It’s actually a setting powder to provide flawless finish, but I found it great to keep the skin matte without looking dull.

–       Kiehl’s Aromatic Blends Nashi Blossom & Pink Grapefruit Fragrance : Perfect size for traveling in a chic minimalist 30 ml bottle. So me.

–       L’Occitane Smooth Hands : Because I wash my hands a lot and dry hands are big NO NO.

FRAGRANCE TOUCH UP-DO YOU REALLY NEED ONE?

Coco Chanel once said “A woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future”. But wearing too much perfume is a definite etiquette faux pas.

So, how to not over-applied your fragrance? Do you really have to bother to touch up your fragrance in the middle of your daily activities?

Layering your fragrance smartly will help. A lot. But there are more tricks than just using the same body wash and lotion as your fragrance.  Learn more about the secret of layering:

If you are the statement perfume fan, like Chanel No.5, leave it alone. Pick unscented bath and body products to compliment the (already) statement perfume.

No range of bath and body products for your fragrance? Such shame, but you can try to stick to the same fragrance family. If your perfume is citrusy, then go for citrusy shower gel and body lotion. Same goes with floral, etc.

Don’t forget to spritz your hair. But as some fragrance might be high in alcohol which will dry your hair gradually, do it last, after you dried and styled your hair. Or, you can use a few drops of perfume oil which will be a good frizz tamer.

If there’s no deodorant for your favorite perfume, no sweat. Deodorant won’t affect your fragrance layering. Make sure you pick the most lightly scented deodorant.

You all know the steps, start with body wash (it could be shower gel or good ol’ bar) that matches your perfume, then hydrate with body lotion (for normal to oily skin) or body butter (for normal to dry skin). Last but definitely not least, apply a drop of perfume oil or rollerball perfume where you’re about to spritz your EDT or EDP normally. Remember, the more moisturized your skin are, the longer your fragrance will last.

MY FAVORITE FRAGRANCE RANGE:

Hesperides Grapefruit by FRESH. The range include: shower gel, soap, body lotion, EDP and rollerball.

Musk by KIEHL’S. The range include: shower gel, lotion, EDT Spray, Essence Oil and Essence Oil with Roller Ball applicator.

White Musk by THE BODY SHOP. The range include: shower gel, deodorant, EDT, perfume oil, body lotion, body crème. They even have body powder & body mist too.

Amazing Grace by PHILOSOPHY. The range include: bath & shower gel, body crème, body oil mist, body spritz, body butter, hand cream, body emulsion, deodorant, solid perfume, fine perfume & spray fragrance.

BRING JOY, BLISS & SPARKLE TO THIS YEAR’S CHRISTMAS

What other ways to feel the Christmas spirit then to layer ourself in Christmas scents?

Well, the celebration aura has already kicked off at The Body Shop Indonesia. I was invited to their press event at the atrium of Mall Taman Anggrek, Jakarta, Indonesia this afternoon. In the middle of the mall, they built up sort of mini Christmas ‘market’, such a joyful journey full with gifts ideas, free make over counter and free gift wrapping. The best part of all, they’re on sale. How about that? For sure, I won’t be running out of festive make up ideas and Christmas presents idea this year as they have so many choices, almost for anyone in the family.

At the press event, Ratu Maulia Ommaya, PR & Social Media Manager The Body Shop Indonesia said, that gift is one of the important part of Christmas celebration, and it won’t be hard to find something right for your loved ones. Especially at the Give Joy event, which will be celebrated at Mal Taman Anggrek, Jakarta, Indonesia until November 25, 2012. This time (until February 2013), The Body Shop Indonesia will donate Rp 5000 for each Mixed Shower Gift Tube, Born Lippy Gift or Body Butter Gift Lollypop sold for children’s health in Papua cooperating with Wahana Visi Indonesia, partner of World Vision in Indonesia.

Being so thoughtful, fellow media friends and bloggers were taught by Nadia Susanti, The Body Shop Indonesia’s make up artist on how to do festive make up. She said that festive means glam and shimmering make up, and The Body Shop named it “Rock Some Sparkle”. Modeled by Alena, Indonesian’s singer, she focused on Alena’s eyes to bring some serious green sparkle to achieve a perfect glow for night look. Alena was happy to see how the color of her eyeshadows turned so intense. She said, “I must have this Baked To Last for my stage performance. I like the boldness of this green color.” And for those who has the time and creativity to spare to wrap gifts, Ineke Turangan, Gift Parcel Expert from Newline was also at the press event to share her knowledge. The Body Shop Indonesia was kindly enough to give extra gift away for press who did the best Christmas wrapping. And of course, as a non DIY person as I’ve ever been, I didn’t win. Haha. And the highlight of the press event was the launch of The Body Shop Christmas Limited Edition 2012. There are three range for this year’s collection. The ever popular Cranberry Joy range is back, with different packaging adorned with snow flakes and sparkles. Check out the new range Vanilla Bliss and Ginger Sparkle, each with interesting notes. Sold separately and in a super adorable gift box (Ginger Bread Man is so cute, don’t you think?), they come in variants of shower gel, body butter, body polish and lip dome (for Cranberry, they have shimmer lotion, hand cream and heart soap). Better hurry to get and wrap them up as early as possible. I personally dislike queuing up just to wrap Christmas gift.

A VIEW FROM JAKARTA FASHION WEEK 2013 FRONT ROW: DAY 6 AT LENNY AGUSTIN

As expressive and youthful as the designer herself.

Presented by The Body Shop, Lenny Agustin chose the theme “Paper Garden” for her ever colorful collection. She was inspired by the delicacy and complexity of origami from Japan, which she admitted was a challenge for her because of the reduction of patterns and motifs. Using materials like Batik from Pekalongan and Tenun from Makassar, her creations are unique and out of the box.

And as color striking as her 37 collections, so did the makeup and hairdos. The Body Shop Indonesia’s team of makeup artists created double winged eyeliner, with fun and bold intense colors for all models’ eyelids to complement Lenny’s collection.

IT’S NOT COOL TO BE CRUEL

In this case, it’s not pretty if you’re being cruel to animals.

Have you ever imagine that the lipsticks we’re using were actually made from ladybug’s shell or the shimmer you’re applying is made possible by fish scales? That’s nothing compared to what I’ve seen through investigation video titled “The Ugly Truth” shown during the launch of Cruelty Free Campaign by The Body Shop Indonesia this morning.

Animal testing for the sake of our cosmetics is really not cool. It’s cruel. In the video shown, thank God my pics above are kind of blurred so you can’t see how the animals like mice and rabbits are suffering for the sake of our beauty products. According to Cruelty Free International, over 80% of countries across the world are still doing animal testing for cosmetics. Therefore, together with The Body Shop, they are committed to this cause and working together to achieve a worldwide ban on animal testing. As we all know, one of The Body Shop 5 values is “Against Animal Testing”. Both are now doing it with our help as customers, to sign the pledge in The Body Shop’s stores around the world, including Indonesia. “We hope that slowly, every region in the world will adapt this Cruelty Free campaign. And based on our experience, customer’s involvement and commitment will be heard more. The Body Shop has been doing “against animal testing” since 1996,” said Rika Anggraini, Corporate Social & Environmental Values Manager The Body Shop Indonesia.

Rika later explained that The Body Shop has been using a more reliable non-animal methods for products testing. “We’re using EPISKIN, it’s a synthetic human skin that react almost the same like our skin. We use them for ingredient test before the product developed and allergic test after the product has developed. It is more expensive, but no animals were involved at all.”

To kick off this campaign in Indonesia, local actresses and model, Rachel Amanda, Tya Ariestya and Laura Muljadi which are known as The Body Shop’s loyal customers since the Brit’s brand entered Indonesia, were signing the pledge at the event in Hotel Mulia, Jakarta, Indonesia. You can also help by dropping by to your nearest The Body Shop store and sign the pledge and leave your name and email. Or, simply log in to http://www.thebodyshop.co.id/ starting tomorrow.

At the same event, The Body Shop Indonesia also launched 100% Cruelty Free Makeup Collection by Lily Cole. Named the first ever global brand ambassador, Lily collaborated with The Body Shop for this lineup which includes lip shine, radiance primer, eyeliner, duo lip and cheek called dome, shimmer cubes and puff on radiance. Pretty in pink packaging, bright colors (many in purple, Lily’s favorite color) and shimmer that comes from mineral mica, not clam shells.

Being an eyeliner kind of gal, my favorite product from this line is the liquid eyeliner. Smudge to make smoky eyes look more natural, or leave the line straight. This limited edition collection will be available in selected The Body Shop Indonesia stores, starting tomorrow. And stay tune, cause this line will grace the runways in Jakarta Fashion Week, starting November 3, 2012 in Plaza Senayan, Jakarta, Indonesia.

BATIK ‘R’ US

As Indonesians, we are proud of our very own Batik. It has been there for a longest time, but only 3 years ago, UNESCO honored our Batik as a “masterpiece of the oral and intangible cultural heritage of humanity” right on this very day, October 2.

The recognition from the world is definitely a huge honor and also our responsibility as a big nation to preserve the heritage of batik, especially for the younger generation. Yes, of course we’re proud that many international designers such as Dries Van Noten and Julien Macdonald already used Batik or inspired by it, but we’re going to be more proud if we as Indonesians are wearing our Batik with pride.

So, in honor of our National Batik Day or simply known as Hari Batik Nasional for most of us, I asked some of my dearest friends to send their pictures wearing Batik. Check out how they wear theirs with pride and unique own style. Special thanks to Moza Pramita, and last but definitely not least, Ratu Ommaya and The Body Shop Indonesia’s team.

REST MY CASE

The beauty of cosmetics packaging. The beauty brands are working very hard to boost their sales and one of the factor to achieve that goal is to have a beautiful packaging which will attract many customers, including me.

How many times have you bought something because of its’ packaging? Maybe, you haven’t even read about the reviews yet, but you just fell in love with it you have to buy it asap? The feelings are very mutual here. It happened to me all the time. It’s even crazier if they are limited edition. I am sold. Here are my beautiful packaging collection.

LOVE CHOCOLATE, LOVE YOURSELF

Indulging ourselves with chocolate eating might not be that good for the tummy. But this guiltless chocolate indulging while showering, is one of the best thing to do for yourself.

The Body Shop launched Chocomania range this year and one of them is this. Chocomania Soap. Shaped like a heart with little beads inside which actually are exfoliating coconut shell. When used, it produced quite a rich lather with its’ creamy textured, so it didn’t leave my skin squeaky dry. It left a soft sweet chocolatey scent and the beads are gently exfoliating, so it did make my hands and body felt soft afterwards.

It is the closest thing you can have if you fancy a chocolate bath, really.

BLING IT ON

Amazed by celebrities that always looked so nicely tanned without overdoing it, apparently not just being achieved by spray tanner or all that tanning moments at their private beach. It’s as simple as slathering body lotion, but not your typical drugstore body lotion for sure.

Two celebrated Hollywood make up artists, Bethany Karlyn and Scott Barnes came up with their own products after several celebrities clients demanded their skin to look more glowing at the red carpet.

Bethany came up with Prtty Peaushun (read: Pretty Potion) Skin Tight Body Lotion which later adored by Gwyenth Paltrow and Rihanna. Fragrance free and natural, it contains subtle light reflecting pigments and will help even out skin tone. The package really looks like refills, but actually it is the real thing. It was designed to take up minimal space in landfills. Very thoughtful indeed.

Thanks to Jennifer Lopez’s bronzed skin that glows like it was lit from within, Scott Barnes launched his best selling beauty product, Body Bling. Used by Jennifer throughout her career (and several divorces too I bet), it became one of the most wanted all over body bronzer ever.

If you want to achieve those all over glowing and bronze look without those hefty price tag, I personally recommend The Body Shop Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil. Its ultra light texture oil won’t feel greasy and gives you the even bronze skin with a hint of shimmer.
Extra Tips: put more on the legs, and don’t forget to scrub before applying.
