CHRISTMAS IS NEAR!

And what I love about every Christmas is getting gifts and sending the lovely gifts to loved ones too.

This November, we can start thinking about sending these candles to light up someone’s holiday season. DIPTYQUE Winter Collection 2015 named IMAGINARY FORESTS. They’re limited edition, so better prepare to get them asap.

A series of three 70 gram candles, SAPIN (smell like pine tree-my favorite of all three), LIQUIDAMBAR (warm and sweet) & OLIBAN (woody and oriental) can be light up at once to create mysterious fragrance or by itself. What’s more special about this collection, Diptyque collaborated with Julien Colombier, a French painter known for his painting on black canvas. Check out their press kit below.

Another must buy is the candle holder. So luxurious.

Except the home fragrances, they have five signature scents set too. Of course, not the same scent as the candles.

Last but not least, check out their video!

THE NEW KIND OF SCENTS ‘LIBRARY’

Check out the new and latest DIPTYQUE’s counter!

Set like a library, this is exactly what you’ll see if you go to their store in Paris (only smaller). Located at The Papilion Duo, Jakarta, you’ll find range of candles, fragrances, home fragrances and their latest skin & body care.

Me and fellow press met Estelle Omnès, Diptyque’s Area Manager for Asia Pacific and she shared interesting facts about Diptyque.

  1. Diptyque’s founders: Christiane Gautrot, Desmond Knox-Leet and Yves Coueslant opened their first shop on 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain to display their artsy fabrics & wallpaper designs (the same wallpaper can be seen on this store!)
  2. Candles made them well known at first, but 7 years later, the very first fragrance was launched, L’Eau.
  3. Celebrating 50 years of anniversary, they launched 34, fragrance inspired by their first shop’s scent.
  4. Their best selling fragrance around the world is PHILOSYKOS. It was actually Greece words mean: Fig Tree. It smells wonderful, very fresh!

NOSTALGIA IN A BOTTLE

image

This latest fragrance from DIPTYQUE will definitely brighten my mood for unbelievably long hot summer days..and nights…

Created in hazy tribute to the childhood memories of Christiane Gautrot, one of DIPTYQUE’s founders, FLORABELLIO is truly a homage to summer days. Collaborating with a fine art photographer, Terri Weifenbach and a writer, Philippe Claudel, check out the fine art works from FLORABELLIO’s press kits.

Also on the press kits, a cute flower repair patch by The Mason & Lesquoy.

I love how Diptyque really put an effort to create a concept and story in each of their fragrances. And just to have that gorgeous bottle sitting beautifully on your makeup drawer, it already defines who you are. You are unique, you love nostalgic moments, you feel comfortable to wear something you’re familiar with and you smell beautiful. Enough said.

FLORABELLIO features notes of sea salt, apple blossom, coffee and toasted sesame. Every note blended effortlessly to create a subtle light airy scent. First whiff might seem citrusy but when it dries down, I can smell that slightly sweet coffee scent. Not your typical summery fragrance, FLORABELLIO is energising and caressing without being too floral or fruity. Now available in Jakarta (yeay!) and it comes in two sizes, EDT 50ml and 100ml.

WHAT’S NEW FROM…

DIPTYQUE.

As we’re stepping into the month of love, February, it’s a perfect time to literally filled the air with some affection. And rose will be the perfect scent for romancing your home because rose was associated with Aphrodite & Venus, Goddesses of Love & Beauty among the Greeks & Romans. Enter Diptyque Rosafolia, the new rose-themed collection which include the candle, scented oval and a new perfume “Eau Plurielle”.

Using Turkish Rose Absolute, enhanced by a touch of galbanum and a hint of geranium, the candle and the scented oval are limited-edition. So better buy them asap, especially if you love the greenish-rose scent which clearly lighter and fresher than ordinary rose. And the thought of using the empty white matte candle jar with lovely rose and ivy design is very appealing, too. Another stylish way to decorate and scent small spaces (like drawers or closets) is using the Rosafolia Scented Oval. A white porcelain medallion with cotton cord can be hung up easily, plus it will look ultra luxurious.

If you love the same scent on your skin and fabric, choose Eau Plurielle. This floral scent can be spray on your body or your pillow sheets, or (in my case) car’s interior. Very seductive scent indeed, thanks to the hesperidia note with musk & wood for its’ staying power.

Another instant sophistication to add to any room, is their “Hourglass Diffuser”. It look elegant by its’ own, and (not to forget) it will delicately releases the scent of your favorite Diptyque (like Roses & Baies). A new alternative for candle, simply flip this over then securely placed on the flat & steady surface. The fragrance might take around 20 minutes to flow through without any help of electricity or heat (talking about saving energy). This hourglass diffuser can be refilled twice, and one will last around 2 ½ months if you turned it over four times a day.

INSTANT AIR OF LUXURY

Great scents count. A lot. Every time I burn DIPTYQUE candle, I feel Paris.

If you never tried this highest quality scented candle (FYI, they’re all made with only natural ingredients-no synthetic scents), this is the perfect set to start. Set of Mini Candles (each weight 70 grams) includes three scents, BAIES (Berries), FIGUIER (Fig) and ROSES (Roses). Even though they’re petite, they’re as powerful as the standard Diptyque candle. And the best part if we own this set is we can lit one by one at itself or light them all to create a unique scent.

Baies was first introduced in 1983, one of the cult classics which is a favorite for such as Peter Som. He also uses the candle’s empty glass container to store his colored pencils (mine will be makeup brushes). Remember folks, do not throw the precious empty glasses once they all burned.

Figuier is another darling for celebrities alike. Once, Gwyneth Paltrow blogged about it, naming Figuier as one of her favorite candle.

Roses is sophisticated & elegant, no wonder Kate Moss, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez swear by its’ scent.

From what I’ve read, those well-known people not only stock their homes with Diptyque candles, they travel with them too. That’s why this set comes in handy at smaller sizes. Don’t you just love the homelike ambience when you travel? I know I do.

SKINCARE BASED ON ART?

For those of you who are still unfamiliar with Diptyque, it was a brand started by three friends with the same artistic mind and creative passion in Paris, way back in 1961. That alone explained why they have such well thought packaging, right down to the fonts.

Diptyque might be super duper famous for its luxurious scented candles (thanks to Jennifer Lopez who demanded Diptyque candles be placed in her dressing room) but this year, they introduced the latest range of products, skin care.

Named L’Art du Soin for the Face (by the way, they had them for body care as well), the total 5 products is quite a small range for based on the art of infused skincare. Inspired by ‘phytotherapy’, an ancient practice meaning ‘to treat with plants’, every product was formulated with plant and flower infusions for beneficial effects on skin. The range offers to bring out skin’s natural radiance for a complexion glowing with well being. There are 5 items available: Infused Facial Water, Nourishing Cleansing Balm, Radiance Boosting Powder, Multi-Use Exfoliating Clay & Protective Moisturizing Lotion. The main product from this range is Infused Facial Water, enriched with Damask Rose scent. Very multi tasking, as you can use it as a toner, a mask (just soak cotton pads with it) or mixed it with the other products from the range like Multi-Use Exfoliating Clay, Radiance Boosting Powder or Nourishing Cleansing Balm for cleansing purpose. In Jakarta, the price range for this luxurious skincare products, starts from Rp 800.000 – Rp 1.000.000.

Tested them myself yesterday at The Dharmawangsa Suite, I personally love the textures. All of them, including the most heavy one, Nourishing Cleansing Balm, surprisingly felt very light upon contact with my skin. Mixed with Infused Facial Water, it metamorphosed into cleansing oil texture, which is perfect to remove makeup for dry skin. Radiance Boosting Powder is another favorite of mine. The white clay powder combined with powdered rose, jasmine and neroli petals, not only hydrate my skin. It turns into a creamy lather for face cleansing when mix with water and the black ball sponge provided inside the packaging. This can also be mixed with Infused Facial Water, and the good news is, it may not be rinse if you don’t feel like you have to. Trust me, I’ve tried not to rinse them, and it didn’t feel sticky or itchy. Just wipe the rest of the foam on your face and left it there.

Coming from the brand that’s well known for their elegant scents, expect the same for this skincare range. And of course, they’ll beautify our bathroom cabinets as well.

NEW FRAGRANCES TO HAVE AND TO HOLD

Once you went niche, there’ll be no turning back.

At least, that’s how I feel about niche fragrances. Somehow, they attracted me with their specific, unique blending and simple packaging. Let’s just say they succumbed me with their intellectually stimulating scents.

Two of my favorite brands are Diptyque and Maison Francis Kurkdjian. Both from Paris, and what I’ve learned from my previous visits to the city of love, most of the people there really appreciate nice scents. Once, a hotel receptionist (an old guy) in a Paris’ hotel complimented me on the scent that I was wearing. I know, right?

The latest launch in Indonesia for the two brands are Diptyque Eau Moheli and Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Vitae. Both in EDT, light and fresh for warmer days.

Dyptique Eau Moheli is a bit on the sweeter scent, coming from a flower ylang-ylang which grows and harvested on Moheli, one of the smallest islands in Comoros, the Indian Ocean. The latest addition to the Floral Water Collection (after Eau Rose a few years back), Eau Moheli is a beautiful bouquet of exotic flowers scent mixed with green notes, peppery spices and woody notes. The most interesting part about the tropical flower ylang-ylang used for this fragrance, they have to be cut every week at dawn, or else they will loose their scent. And the distillation process which conducted locally can take up to 20 hours. Considered a summer fragrance, Dyptique Eau Moheli is perfect for those who want floral fragrance without being too flowery.

The other must have fragrance in our warm climate is Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Vitae. Inspired by one of Francis’ own trip to Formentera in the Balearic island (at the Mediterranean), when one afternoon he rides an old motorbike. It was blazing hot, but the cool wind touched his face. That beautiful feelings created Aqua Vitae, the water of life. Citrusy, woody and musky, it’s an easy, simple fragrance for man and woman. Lemon from Calabria, Mandarin from Sicily, Tonka Bean from Brazil, vanilla infusion, hedione and guaiac wood were chosen by Francis to make this relaxing scent. Yes, somehow I personally feel that it’s such a relaxing fragrance, soft like second skin but better.

What I love about both fragrances, even though they come in EDT, don’t let the light textures fooled you. They sit on my skin quite long during my active days and don’t you just love when your fragrance stayed close to you all the time? I know I did.

WHEN THE WEATHER CHANGES

For me, changing fragrances is not just to suit my moods.

I’ve learned my fragrance lessons 101 well throughout my traveling days. Some fragrances (even those with big names) suddenly failed on me when I bought them in colder climates cities, and wore them here in my home town which is hot and humid like all the time. They just smell…well…different. That’s why I started to believe that some fragrances are just best to worn where they produced….

….until this week I was invited to the launch of the latest Diptyque fragrance, named L’Eau Du Trente Quatre in The Papilion Duo, Jakarta, Indonesia. Seems like the good people at Diptyque can read my mind and needs, they created a new version of their original 34 Boulevard Saint Germain (named after their boutique address in Paris/the place where Diptyque was born in 1961).

A greener interpretation, more playful and definitely lighter, Diptyque L’Eau Du Trente Quatre is the perfect fragrance to accommodate warmer climate and suit our forever summery mood. Thanks to the green scent of birch tree leaves, a unique cocktail of bitter orange, verbena, lemon, grapefruit and lavender as top notes. A pinch of nutmeg, juniper berries and cinnamon tree leaves sets the floral heart of Egyptian geranium and tuberose. Last but not least are the base of Virginia cedar, patchouli, a hint of incense, Spain cist and bright musk which balance this genderless fragrance into one unforgettable scent.

Diptyque L’Eau Du Trente Quatre comes in a white cap with the same oval bottle as the 34 Boulevard Saint Germain (which comes in a black cap, by the way). And its’ box represent a more feminine side of the brand, to commemorates the grey and pink fabrics produced at the beginnings of Diptyque with a special Pretorien motif. Currently, they carry two sizes (50ml and 100ml) of Eau De Toilette, but let’s hope they will expand this versatile new scent to solid perfume and home fragrance as well.
