AFFORDABLE YET DELICIOUS BEEF BBQ IN TOWN

Earlier this week, I tried this Korean restaurant in Lippo Mall Kemang, Jakarta Indonesia, named MUJIGAE.

Not a new restaurant, but I don’t know why it took me awhile to try this casual Korean Food Restaurant. But then, my son tried it first with his friends, and he said it was delicious, so there I went.

There are several Korean restaurants in my neighbourhood, but I must say this Mujigae has the best yet super affordable barbecue beef. I went with my son and hubby, so there were three of us and we only spent less than IDR 300K including drinks. Bring cash, because they don’t accept credit cards yet.

Other than the barbecue beef, we also ordered Bulgogi (shown above). It was a successful dish also, considering they sliced the beef thinly and very well marinated (the meat there is very tender & tasteful). Different from the beef barbecue which you have to put on the pan slice by slice, the Bulgogi’s meat are already on the pan.

Comes with the DIY mini grill pan (how cute, right?), the con is: when the fire is too big, watch out for the splattered oil and overcooked beef. By the way, our barbecue beef and bulgogi come with kimchi and nori sheets too. For drinks, try their Mango Yakult (very refreshing!).

Recommended? Hell, yeah. I’ll be back for sure.

CUTENESS OVERLOAD LIPSTICK

This week VOV Indonesia sent me these VOV SUPER FITTING LIPQUID to try. 

FYI, VOV is a cosmetic brand from South Korea since 1981 and owned by LG Household & Healthcare Korea. Available in Indonesia since 2004, their latest concept is “Girly and Modern Chic”. 

And of course, that very concept was truly represented on their products. Just take a look at these lipsticks they sent me!

Priced at IDR240K each, don’t get fooled by the packaging. They might look like ordinary lipstick, but when twisted to open, voila!

They are liquid lipstick. Well actually VOV Super Fitting Lipquid is a combination between lipstick, lip tint and lip stain altogether. Different from other liquid lipsticks that I’ve tried which basically matte or suede in texture, it’s more light and watery. But no worries, it wasn’t runny at all. In fact, I was surprised by the highly pigmented color, even though I just swiped once. 

I used ‘Sweet RIch Pink” for the pic above, and I like how it felt really comfortable on the lips. The applicator also made it easier to apply. I decided to pull on the full lips, though I eager to try the lipstick to create Ombre Lips which they recommended on the press release. Stay tune for the Ombre Lips look!

IF BLACK IS YOUR HAPPY COLOR …

…. you might love this latest fragrance from LES PARFUMS DE ROSINE, BALLERINA NO 3. 

Just look at that black everything! Black matte flacon and that black tulle! So I’ve been told that it’s hard to find tulle fabrics in Paris? Seriously?

Why number 3? This is the follow-up to the previous Ballerina No 1 and 2. If you missed my post about them, click here

In my earlier post, I mentioned about Black Swan and guess what? Actually, Ballerina No 3 was inspired by Black Swan. In the press release about this fragrance, Ballerina No 3 noted as a perfume with double personality, just like the character in Swan Lake Ballet. At first, it was delicate, soft and cheering…but then it turned to voluptuous, powerful & captivating. 

Invented by Delphine Lebeau, Ballerina No 3 sort of reveals the most secrete & dark part of the ballerina. Warning you: this ain’t no sweet ballerina with pink tutus. 

Head notes: fuchsia flowers, rose buds, black pepper & pink pepper
Heart notes: black rose & violet leaves
Base notes: sandalwood, oud, cashmeran, caramelized vanilla, cedar wood, patchouli and amber.

Amber note made this women fragrance super long lasting, and based on the notes above, Ballerina No 3 can be categorised as a Woody Floral Musk Fragrance. Available in 50ml and 100ml EDP, I can say this fragrance is very feminine yet powerful. So fierce at its’ own, I feel guilty if I don’t wear my black attire with this fragrance. 

PINK IS NOT JUST A COLOR …

…. it’s an attitude! 

As a firm believer of that quotes and as a person who literally dressed in monochrome almost every single day, I’m still a girl who believe in the power of pink. I do have a pink bag and of course, pink lipsticks.

Earlier this week, me and fellow bloggers were invited by L’Oréal Paris Indonesia for the launch of their latest lipstick collection, COLOR RICHE LA VIE EN ROSE. At the same event, they also introduced their latest Brand Ambassador, Maudy Ayunda. At only 21 years old, she scored one of her dreams to become L’Oréal Paris Brand Ambassador. 

This year, L’Oréal Paris will focus on makeup, other than skincare or haircare and they’ll name it MAKEUP DESIGNER. It’s great to know that they will make this brand accessible to customers, not professional makeup artist. Yup, they will encourage normal people like us to be our own makeup designer, because we know our face better than everyone else.

They pinkified the venue. 

Back to the lipstick collection….here in Indonesia, they only bring 6 out of 12 shades. They chose only the pink that most suitable for Indonesians skin tone, so the pinks won’t be too pale on our mostly yellowish skin tone. And these 6 shades were inspired by L’Oréal Paris Ambassadors, Blake Lively, Eva Longoria, Liya Kebede, Jennifer Lopez, Doutzen Kroes and Aishwarya Rai.

Last but not least, the swatch!

Matte finish with no dry feeling. That’s what I thought about these lovely pink shades. Unlike some matte finish lipstick, these felt velvety when applied and didn’t give me that one dimensional flat look. By the end of the day, they won’t cracked. Like most lipstick, the shades might vary on different skin tone. So I really suggest to try them on yourself, instead of just judging from the swatch. 

My favorite out of 6 shades? Eva Longoria’s Nymphea. Peachy pink with slightly yellow-ish pigment, perfect to complement my warm skin undertone. I believe it made my face look brighter when I wore it. Check my instagram @shintarosvita to see each swatch on my lips.

THE SCENT OF MILLENIALS

Calvin Klein is back with (what they called) a gender free fragrance: CK2.

Way back then in 1994, CK One was a big hit for being the unisex fragrance for young generation. Two years later, there was CK Be, also known as unisex fragrance. Now in 2016, there’s CK2.

Now that things have changed a lot, ‘unisex’ are no more. Instead the term ‘gender free’ was used to address the young generation which named the Millennials. 

I was invited with others Sociolla Bloggers to the launch, and they had this capsule. We experienced the virtual 360 panoramic picture inside the capsule, very millennial-ish indeed. 

So, what’s in the fragrance?

Those are just some. But yes, those are literally stones. One of the notes is wet cobblestone, along with wasabi (yes, that bitter dipping in Japanese restaurants), sandalwood, mandarin, violet leaf absolute, orris concrete, rose absolute, vetiver and incense. 

Being a gender free fragrance, it’s really fresh and I found it more masculine than feminine, though. In the press release, they announced CK2 as Urban Woody Fresh. So, yeah…it is fresh at the very beginning and turned very woody when dried down. 

Only available in 100ml EDT Spray bottle in Indonesia, I love the minimalist design of the bottle (however, minimalism is essential to Calvin Klein’s DNA). It reminds me of bulb, and it can be viewed upside down, as the cap also serves as a stand to maintain the bottle. How cool and futuristic!

10 HAIR LOSS MYTHS & FACTS

Before you know how to treat hair loss, let’s separate hair loss fact from fiction, shall we?

Myth: Cosmetic hair care products will cause hair loss.
Fact: Shampoo, conditioner, hair spray or temporary hair coloring only offer temporary changes to the hair. So, even though they deliver selected ingredient to the hair follicle, they DO NOT cause hair loss.

Myth: We shall brush our hair 100 strokes each night.
Fact: Over-indulgent brushing & combing, especially of wet hair, is probably the most damaging of all. Aggressive combing, particularly to remove tangles will result in apparent hair loss.

Myth: Tight braids, ponytails & buns will not cause baldness.
Fact: Wearing specific hairstyles which apparently too tight over an extended period of time, will cause hair loss. Opt for looser hair styles that minimize scalp tension.

Myth: Brushing thinning hair will make them fall out faster.
Fact: As long as we use good brush in normal daily brushing, it will not accelerate the normal loss of hair from the scalp.

Myth: Sunburnt scalp will lead to hair loss.
Fact: Well, actually it’s kind of true.  Severe sunburn that occur over time may damage delicate hair follicles at the root level. Avoid scalp burns by protecting your scalp with sun protection product (just like what we do for our skin) and wear hat.

Myth: Smoking will accelerate hair loss.
Fact: Yup, smoking is bad for our hair. Not only it has been conclusively linked to accelerate hair loss, according to J.G Mosley in an article of Science News (1997), smokers are also four times more likely to have gray hair than non smokers. So, quit smoking. Now.

Myth: Cutting hair will make them grow faster and thicker.
Fact: Sorry, but cutting your hair won’t solve hair loss problem. Thin, limp and fine hair will not ever grow thicker in response to a hair cut.

Myth: Hair loss is genetic.
Fact: Well, hair loss is polygenetic. Means, your hair fate is decided by a pretty random assortment of genes from both of your parents. So, if hair loss is generally runs in the family, most likely you have to deal with hair loss problem too.

Myth: Hair loss only happens when we age.
Fact: If you start losing more than 100 strands a day, you are in trouble, no matter how old you are.

Myth: The only treatment for hair loss is topical treatment.
Fact: Topical treatment is not the only treatment for hair-loss problem as there are some treatment that proven to stimulate hair growth from within. For me, after using it & see the result, Abbott CG 210 is the best solution for hair loss management. So, for you who wish to reduce hair shedding, increase hair thickness and promote new healthy hair, you should try this hair & scalp essence.

MY LIFE MIGHT NOT BE PERFECT….

…. but at least my brows are!

Thanks to Anggie Rassly, whom I met way back in 2013 when I did my writing gig for Dewi Magazine. Yes, she did my eyebrows embroidery, and I am very fortunate, because I heard from a friend that her waiting list is already until 2019. Seriously? 

She is that good! And I’m very proud that finally she launched a book last February 2016, same time as her birthday. What a way to celebrate a birthday, right?

The first ever beauty book about brows in Indonesia. There are lots and lots of beauty book about makeup, but not very much about eyebrows. Anggie’s vision and mission to broaden people’s horizons about how eyebrows can make or break the whole makeup were poured on this very book.

And who doesn’t love the before after pics? In this session of the book, Anggie really showed how everyone have different type of eyebrows and what’s best for each face shape. Her passion of doing eyebrows embroidery and her attention to details really shine through this book.

THINK. ORANGE.

Just in time to welcome spring, the latest fragrance from DIPTYQUE, EAU DES SENS.

This week me and fellow press were invited to the launch of this adventurous fragrance. 

It was a fantastic dinner at SHY, one of the most prestigious fine dining restaurant in Jakarta, Indonesia. And right from the moment we stepped in the restaurant, there are literally orange everywhere. 

Why orange? Because some of the composition of Diptyque Eau des Sens is orange blossom and bitter orange, alongside with juniper berry, angelica and patchouli. 

This genderless fragrance was developed by perfumer Olivier Pescheux and I believe it channel the zest and vibrancy of the citrus fragrance, with the presence of floral. 

At the event, we were given out this special card. It looked blank when we received it, and once they sprayed with the fragrance, the humorous three monkeys popped out. 

Speak no evil, look no evil and hear no evil! Yup, Eau des Sens is definitely for those who appreciate fragrance that delight the senses. Another unusual fragrance landscape from Diptyque, indeed. Fresh like orange at the first whiff, and lingered to sensuous woody notes.

Diptyque Eau des Sens will be available in Jakarta, Indonesia this very month (March 2016) in Eau de toilette 50ml and 100ml flacons. 

IF IT’S GOOD ENOUGH FOR KATE & CARA

It’s great for me!

MY BURBERRY. The latest chapter from MY BURBERRY fragrance story. Comes in EDT, this is a fresher interpretation of their iconic MY BURBERRY EDP. I admire their ad concept by brought together the two of the most famous supermodel in this world, for the first time ever in one ad. That’s right, folks. Both of them never been shot together before, and this was their first. Before I review the fragrance, and if you’re a fan of Kate & Cara like me, check out their video.

Created by Burberry’s Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bailey, working in collaboration with my favorite perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, MY BURBERRY is inspired by the iconic trench coat (that explain why Kate & Cara wore the Heritage coats in the ad). Imagine that trench coat, how classic, timeless, elegant, sophisticated, yet look very fresh. 

Even though their notes are mostly floral like sweet pea, lemon flower, peonies, peach flower, freesia, and Centifolia Roses, this fragrance is very green in scent, IMHO. First spritz for me was very fresh (like fresh grass after the rain) and it dried down to a bit masculine twist (thanks to the musk as its’ base note). And I know it’s EDT, which supposed to be lighter and have less staying power than EDP, but MY BURBERRY EDT surprised me with their long lasting scent. A truly enjoyable fragrance to wear in this humid rainy season.

And the flacon. A gorgeous bottle indeed. Housed in the classic MY BURBERRY EDP bottle, I adore the black cap with the bold horn-finish stone and tiny twist of gabardine ribbon (look tough yet feminine). Actually it echoes the distinctive buttons and the hand-tied stone-coloured English-woven gabardine knot, to honour the fabric invented by Thomas Burberry over 100 years ago. I just love the story behind everything.

FRAGRANCE JUST LIKE US

Fragile yet strong. Meet the latest KENZO Paris Parfums, FLOWER BY KENZO L’ELIXIR.

Inspired by poppy flower which eventually scentless, this new fragrance is soft and sensual. Launched to celebrate 15 years of the famous Flower by Kenzo fragrance, I found L’Elixir more intense than their previous ones.

As we can see on the bottle, the notes are: Framboise (raspberry), Essence de Rose (from Bulgarian Rose), Praline (which gave this fragrance a gourmand effect) and Absolu Vanille (aka Bourbon Vanilla Absolute). As precious as the notes, the bottle also look sophisticated. It’s dark, mysterious.

I went to their launch event and it was all Poppy Red. Check out Ming Xi, the gorgeous Chinese model as their face.
