FIRST IMPRESSION: BANILA CO

Woohoo!!! Another K-Brand is entering J-Town. This time is Banila Co. Thanks to C&F Store for sending me these.

I’ve been eyeing on their Cleansing Balm for awhile, but moving on back and forth to purchase it because of my sudden fungal-acne attack. Yes, unfortunately most of cleansing balms contain Ethylhexyl Palmitate (noted as fungal acne trigger on skincarisma.com). But I can see why this is such a hype product for beauty enthusiast. First, their packaging is very ‘now’, looking very instagramable, and instead of renewing just the packaging, they also updated the formula. For the Original (the pink jar), there used to be mineral oil in their ingredients, but they replaced it with natural ester oil. I just wish there are fungal-acne safe cleansing balm out there (please let me know if there’s any).

Fungal-Acne Safe Primer, yeay!!!

There’s one that is actually safe for fungal-acne, and I’ve enjoyed using so far. It’s not silicone-free, though (hello it’s a primer, so no surprise there). Their Classic Primer. Comes in a pump bottle, it is a makeup primer with satin finish. Yes, you heard me correctly. It is rare that a primer comes in a satin, not matte finish. I use this occasionally though, as primer is not a must makeup step for me.

Before Classic Primer (Left) & After Classic Primer (Right)

One interesting product, their Sun Primer. It is a primer plus sun protection, so perfect for traveling to save baggage. If you have no problem with fungal acne, you will love this (it contains Ethylhexyl Palmitate, which might trigger fungal acne according to skincarisma.com).

As for their range of makeup named B. by Banila, they sent me Lipdraw Melting Serum Stick and Liplike Lip Slip. Love their super simple but very instagramable tubes.

Lipdraw Melting Serum Stick

Lipdraw Melting Serum Stick is perfect for those who love gradient lips look. It felt melting when applied on lips, maybe because it contains argan oil and honey extract that feel very moisturizing.

Liplike Lip Slip

Liplike Lip Slip is a lip lacquer that combines the color pay-off of a lipstick, the moisture of a lip gloss and the longevity of a lip tint. How awesome! It is lightweight and looks matte on lips. Might purchase another shade as I’m so not into reds.

Now you can purchase all the originals Banila Co at some C&F Stores, or online here.

REVIEW: SULWHASOO SHEER LASTING FOUNDATION

Thanks Sulwhasoo Indonesia for sending me this liquid foundation for an honest review.

Love the luxurious packaging

I believe most of Korean foundation designed to look as natural as possible. This one, too. Infused with sea buckthorn berries (which is rich in antioxidants), and powered with Sheer Hydra Formula Technology, this foundation adheres to skin gently, with a natural glowing finish. The formula contains non-oily moisturizing ingredients for that fresh powdery finished look and long-lasting effect.

Given to me is shade No 23

Unfortunately, according to skincarisma.com, this foundation is not fungal-acne safe due to one of its’ ingredient (Sorbitan Sesquioleate), but it’s not one of the top 5 main ingredients. If you don’t have any problem with fungal acne, it should be fine.

Bare Faced
Using the foundation, set with loose powder

Tips:

  • Shake really well before each use.
  • A little goes a long way

Go buy this if you like:

  • Light-weight liquid foundation
  • Natural and glowing finish

REVIEW: TRILOGY CERTIFIED ORGANIC ROSEHIP OIL

I went to the launch of Trilogy in Jakarta last week, and they claim that this specific product sold every 20 seconds around the world. Is it that good?

First, why did I choose this over two others? Rosehip Oil Antioxidant+ contains Cranberry Seed Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil that might trigger Fungal-Acne. Similar with Rosehip Oil Light Blend, it contains Jojoba Seed Oil and Cranberry Seed Oil. Big no for Fungal-Acne. Meanwhile, the Certified Organic Rosehip Oil contains 100% Rose Canina (Rosehip) Seed Oil, which is totally safe for Fungal-Acne.

If you’ve been reading my blog posts, you’ll know that I did electrocauter to get rid of milias and sebaceous hyperplasia that I had last year. And to get rid of the scars from the treatment, was a challenge. I’ve tried this and that to make the scars from cauterization healed faster, and when I stumbled upon this specific oil, I was hooked. Until now.

You see, Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is a 100% pure organic rosehip oil that works not only to prevent skin aging, but also to assist skin renewal and repair. It is also clinically proven to help scars and damage skin. So yeah, no wonder it really worked to help me clear out my cauter scars. For scars, I used this on the very end step of my PM skincare routine.

Bare Faced. Left – not using oil. Right – using oil.

Then, after all the cauter scars were gone, I’m still using it until today. For different purpose, that is. I mixed this with foundation to give me that radiant healthy glow. Because of its’ oil texture, I believe it will blend well with any liquid foundation. Check out the difference when I’m using the oil and not.

Can you tell? When using the oil, skin doesn’t look dead matte. It glows naturally.

By the way, Trilogy is a brand from New Zealand. Come to think of it, this is the first and the only Australian’s skincare product that I purchased. Now you can get them here in Indonesia at some C&F stores (they carry only 15 SKU’s for now). Or you can buy them online, here.

REVIEW: ROLLOVER REACTION CUSHION COMPACT SPF 27 TINTED MOISTURIZER

Thanks Rollover Reaction team for sending me this PR Kit before they even launch this on March 25, 2019.

So, is it a cushion? Or is it a tinted moisturizer? Or both?

Use the puff to apply
My given shade is the lightest (perfect shade) Custard Tart

You see, cushion is ‘the house’ for the liquid inside (it is a packaging format). Most brands filled it with liquid foundation. But being Rollover Reaction, they filled it with tinted moisturizer. To tell you the truth, I was being skeptical at first, because I thought this is going to be one sheer base like most tinted moisturizer out there. Boy, I was wrong!

I only use one layer! No concealer, no filter!

This didn’t just cover well, but (I guess because one of the ingredient is caffeine) it perked up my complexion. And since this is also formulated with sunscreen SPF27, you can carry this for touch-ups during the day. Reapply over makeup and voila! You can get sun protection all day too.

Comes in 3 adaptable shades. Names inspired by Asian desserts.

But, talking about the ingredients, I’ve noticed Stearic Acid on the list down below. According to SkinCarisma.com, it is a fungal-acne trigger. So better watch out if you are prone to fungal-acne.

You’ll enjoy this if:

  • You are not feeling like going heavy on foundation
  • You love natural-looking cushion (not dewy nor matte)
  • You like versatile products that can go with you anywhere (thanks to its’ cute packaging)
  • You expect medium to high coverage tinted moisturizer in a compact
  • You want your skin to look ‘real’ not made up

REVIEW: SHU UEMURA THE LIGHTBULB FOUNDATION

Thanks Shu Uemura Indonesia for sending me this for an honest review.

If you have trouble finding a tailor-made liquid foundation for Asian skin, look no further. I’m sure you’ll find your perfect shade from this product range. Mine is shade #764 Medium Light Beige, perfect for my current skin tone.

Be aware of the top 5 ingredients which include PEG-30 Dipolyhydroxystearate (identified as Fungal Acne trigger on skincarisma.com).

Without further adieu, let’s see how this foundation looked on my face.

BARE FACE
ONLY FOUNDATION
SET WITH LOOSE POWDER

Tips: Don’t use too much if you have oily skin.

Go buy this if you like:

  • fluid foundation
  • natural looking glow
  • flawless complexion
  • comfortable base makeup
  • perfect base for everything after (serious awesomeness)

REVIEW: SULWHASOO SHEER LASTING GEL CUSHION

Thanks Sulwhasoo Indonesia for sending me this for honest review.

Always love Sulwhasoo for their luxurious packaging. This Sheer Lasting Gel Cushion included.

Inside the box, there are two puffs and they’re not ordinary cushion puffs. They’re specially designed 3D puff with squares like texture to make application more even and smooth.

What made this cushion different?

Check out the micro mess on top. I believe this help to control the dosage when you tap the puff on it, so it’ll perfectly deliver what it claimed: feather-light complexion with sheer glow with just one single touch.

Texture: Very light gel (almost watery in some extent) that dries down to a semi-matte finish.

From the product’s brochure, it contains SPF35 PA++ with Sea Buckthorn Berries as one of the main ingredient (for a vibrant complexion).

Shade: They sent me No 23, which is Natural Beige (it perfectly matched my skin tone at the moment). FYI, they carry 5 shades in Indonesia.

Now, let’s see how this applied on my face.

Bare Face
Wearing cushion only
Set with powder and full makeup

Unfortunately, this is not safe for fungal acne prone skin when I checked on skincarisma.com. But the triggers’ ingredients are way below the top 5 ingredients, so I felt a bit safe when I use this. So far, it didn’t trigger my fungal acne (God forbids).

Go buy this if you like:

  • luxurious packaging
  • light feeling base makeup
  • sheer and natural looking skin
  • semi-matte finish

REVIEW: LAKME ABSOLUTE REINVENT X ANGGIE RASSLY PRECISION MARBLE BROW PENCIL

These certainly made ripples in the makeup world. New brow product features two shades (one darker and one lighter) in one pencil, with marble-like textures (look closely and you shall find).

They come in a nice box (sorry I forgot to take the pic of the box), complete with instructions on how to use the pencil and a sharpener. Available in two shades, Marble Grey and Marble Brown. Priced at IDR139K a pop, I think it’s a reasonable price, considering they come with spoolie brush at the other end of the pencil and a sharpener (made in Germany).

Even though I had my eyebrows embroidered by the one and only Anggie Rassly who collaborate with Lakme to create these gorgeous looking pencils, I still use eyebrow pencil daily to accentuate them. And I like my eyebrow pencil to: last all day (who touch up their eyebrows, seriously?), slightly waxy and hard, doesn’t break easily and looks as natural as possible. Of course, Lakme Absolute Reinvent X Anggie Rassly Precision Marble Brow Pencil checked all my boxes.

I use Marble Brown for natural everyday look
Marble Grey for special occasion, because it is bolder.

Go buy this if you like:

  • user friendly eyebrows pencil
  • using spoolie brush that comes with the pencil
  • sharpened eyebrows pencil
  • natural looking eyebrows

Where to buy? Lakme boutiques (Central Park & Senayan City, Jakarta), department stores, local cosmetic stores and online

THANK YOU, NEXT … BEAUTY PRODUCTS I’VE TRIED & DISLIKE

Not every beauty products that I’ve personally purchased and tried actually made it here. Especially those that just didn’t work on me, or I simply didn’t get the hype.

But, please note that everyone is different. So what might not work for me, might work for you. I’m just going to write down the format, not that I dislike the brand and their specific products per se.

EYEGLOSS

Thanks to my oily eyelids and humid weather here in Jakarta where I live, this format of eye color didn’t seem to work on me.

EXFOLIATING PAD

No. Just no. Don’t get me wrong. I do exfoliate daily. But, just not with these kind. I didn’t enjoy using this thick wet paper that felt rough on skin.

TONER MIST

I guess I’m an old soul. I prefer my toner to be poured on a piece of cotton pads.

WHITE FINISHING POWDER

I know some claimed to give flawless finish, but I just prefer face powder that have the same shade as my skin tone.

CUSHION

I believe cushion will work and look better on dry skin on drier and colder climates.  That’s all.

CLEANSING OIL

Thanks to my fungal acne prone skin, it is very hard to find cleansing oil that safe. So, this is a pass (unfortunately, because I actually love how it cleansed well for heavy makeup wearer like me).

SHEET MASK

For those who enjoy wearing them, lucky you. As much as I want to like them, I just don’t like their gooey textures. I prefer compressed sheet mask mixed with my own hydrating toner.

REVIEW & SWATCHES: L’OREAL LES INFALLIBLES PRO MATTE LIQUID LIPSTICK

It has been awhile since I review and do swatches for lipsticks. So before the year ends, let’s do this.

Thanks to Sociolla and L’Oreal Indonesia that sent me these 16 lipsticks to try. Yes, 16 pieces that will last me throughout next year, I guess.

There are 8 of INFALLIBLE PRO MATTE LIQUID LIPSTICK and 8 INFALLIBLE PRO MATTES LIQUID LIPSTICK LES CHOCOLATS.

As you can see, they already different by the caps. Les Chocolates has nude shade caps and Les Chocolates label on it.

They both have the same pro-sculpt applicator, that makes them easy to sweep on lips.

How about scents? Of course, Les Chocolats smells literally like chocolate. While the black cap ones smells like fruits.

LES CHOCOLATS (swatches on natural light)
LES CHOCOLATS (swatches on natural light)

Shades? Brown toned shades (from light to dark) for Les Chocolats

INFALLIBLE PRO MATTE (swatches on natural light)
INFALLIBLE PRO MATTE (swatches on natural light)

And variable shades (mostly dark to nude) for the Infallible Pro Matte.

Formula? Being the same Infallible Pro Matte, they do have the same creamy texture. They are light weight when set to matte finish and the pigment are incredible. I only use one swipe on this pic and it already covered so well. I believe these lipsticks will be good for those who originally have darker shade of lips.

They last longer than any liquid matte lipsticks that I’ve tried and didn’t create that white flaky lines between upper and lower lips.

Tips: because they are basically matte lipsticks, and (as you might already know) they have tendencies to exaggerate natural lip lines, I recommend to apply lip balm beforehand.

#372 (PETAL POTION)

My favorite shades: 372 (seen on my lips), 842 & 848.
