WHAT’S INSIDE YSL BEAUTY ADVENT CALENDAR 2022?

If you are a collector, go get it while it’s still hot, you guys!

First thing first, the box is sturdy, made of hard carton. I saw other brand’s advent calendar and when one vlogger unbox it, it was easily torn. But this YSL, even when you pull out the individual ‘drawer’, it slides in and out easily without any struggle. It does scream festive with shimmering golden stars. Gorgeously designed, I must say.

As any advent calendar out there, there are 24 items, all of the best-selling mostly makeup products, a bit of mini-size skincare, fragrances and a pocket mirror.

Minis? No worries, there are four full-size lipsticks inside. Most of the lipsticks are in the red shade family, so if you are a fan of red lips, enjoy!

For skin enthusiasts, this is your chance to try their mini size before you commit to the full size.

And their fragrance miniatures are to drool for!

So, this Christmas, treat yourself or that extra someone with this luxe gift (priced at 6.3mio rupiah).

REVIEW: MAYBELLINE NEW YORK LASH SENSATIONAL SKY HIGH WATERPROOF MASCARA

Now that I am back to full-time work, I am back as mascara’s user as well.

I bought this when it wasn’t available locally here in Indonesia. But no worries, now this mascara is officially available (you can buy it online or offline at local drugstores here in Jakarta, Indonesia)

I guess when it comes to mascara, I really do trust Maybelline New York. I remember my first mascara is Great Lash, the one with the green cap (they don’t sell it here, but I guess they still have it in the US?). For drugstore mascaras, I believe this brand never failed on me and my typical Asian lashes, straight, short and droopy. Having sensitive eyes, I really don’t want to risk my eyes getting more watery by using any type of mascara. So you know, this mascara is allergy tested, ophthalmologist tested, even suitable for contact lens wearer. If you have sensitive eyes like me, go get this, you won’t regret it.

That “magic wand”

Super in love with the flex tower brush, somehow it just gripes to each lash, no clump for sure. It lengthen without that fake eyelashes look, because it does contain bamboo extract and fibers to extend every lash with authentic impact. For me, one layer is enough for day look, but if you want to add one more layer, it still look pretty natural.

AFTER (only 1 layer) – BEFORE

Result while using it: it didn’t move until you take it off with eyes makeup remover. And yes, you can easily remove this by using waterproof eye makeup remover or cleansing oil.

REVIEW: MAYBELLINE NEW YORK INSTANT AGE REWIND ERASER

Hi Folks! Sorry for such a long hiatus. I’m back as full-time worker, so I have limited time to blog. One of the positive side of going back to work is applying makeup. And here’s one of my current favorite concealer, because it’s also proven to be safe for fungal acne.

Mine is shade 120 Light, and actually I’ve used this before. This concealer is unique, it comes with the cushion applicator. If you’ve been following me, you’d know that I don’t use foundation as a base, instead I use concealer on just some part of my face. But in this specific post, I’d show you the concealer effect on under eyes.

If you noticed, I only applied this on inner and outer corners of my eyes. Why? This is a trick that I’ve learned watching Wayne Goss’ YT, to avoid creasing under eyes, especially for aging skin. And talking about aging, this concealer is not just a coverage concealer per se, it is infused with goji berry Haloxyl. It is an anti-aging concealer, and because it does have a light texture, it doesn’t sit on lines and crease-resistant. Try using setting mist before applying concealer to set, instead of using setting powder that will increase the chance of getting creased under eyes.

Before concealer
After concealer (no setting powder), as you might noticed, lines and dark circles are sort of erased naturally
Final look with eyes makeup

I hope my pictures do the rest of this review. See you on another post (hopefully soon).

Wear test, it still didn’t crease under the eyes (mind the grease-ball look)

REVIEW & SWATCHES: MAYBELLINE NEW YORK COLOR SENSATIONAL CREAMY MATTE LIP COLOR IN TOUCH OF SPICE

I’m a team bullet, just because I don’t enjoy applying liquid lipstick. And I rarely do touch up on the go, especially during this pandemic. So, I need a long lasting lipstick. I love creamy lipstick that gives a matte finish, with a light formula and comfortable feel on the lips.

So, I bought this out of curiosity, because I read in Temptalia, that this specific shade is 90% similar to Pillow Talk from Charlotte Tilbury. And since I don’t own the CT ones’, let’s take a look at these screenshots from Temptalia, and let me know your thoughts.

Gorgeous pigmented color, and I believe this shade will look great on warmer skin tones. Perfect for everyday shade, too! It has a scent that reminds me of vanilla cookies, but it didn’t linger too long, so no worries.

I am glad that this is a permanent shade, it’s my new holy grail drugstore lipstick for sure!

FEBRUARY 2022 HAUL & LIFE UPDATE

Quick life update: yours truly might be a bit slow to blog in the near future (but I’ll try my best, so hang with me, please). I’m fine and healthy, thanks for asking. But when they said that life can change in the blink of an eye, they are not kidding. What you thought you would do for the rest of your life, might not be. And what you thought would not happened in a zillion years, might be. No worries, mine is going to the right and steady directions. I took a leap of faith, exiting my freelance life to go back to corporate life. May the force be with me, and with you who also experiencing this in 2022. We can do this!!! Please follow me on my instagram for latest updates on life and such.

Now, let’s get on with the haul, shall we?

MAYBELLINE LASH SENSATIONAL SKY HIGH MASCARA

Not available officially in Indonesia yet (hopefully soon), so I bought this from a trusted online shop. Yes, they win again at this mascara. I believe they have two versions: Waterproof and Washable. Mine is the Waterproof ones.
PRICE IDR 185K

EMINA BARE WITH ME MINERAL MILD FOUNDATION

This is a local brand targeted for teenagers, actually. But I’m impressed that they have mineral foundation. I rarely wear foundation these days, but if I have to, I’d prefer something like this, mineral (to avoid clogged pores) and light ones. Since it’s local, of course it’s super affordable.
PRICE IDR 79K

REVLON SUPER LUSTROUS LIPSTICK

I read in Temptalia that this Blushing Nude shade is a dupe for Hourglass Ultra Slim High Intensity Lipstick (shade “If Only”). I love the color and the satin finish when first applied. Unfortunately after awhile, it might turn flaky if you don’t blot. So make sure, you blot, then it should be fine.
PRICE IDR 49K

EAU THERMALE AVENE TOLERANCE EXTREME EMULSION

The only skincare product I purchased this month. If you’ve been following me, you’d probably know that I love French’ drugstores brands. This is one of the best moisturizer that I’ve ever tried (obviously not my first purchase), minimal ingredients, hydrates, soothes and moisturizes with all the right ingredients. It’s also very safe for fungal acne.
PRICE IDR 345K

SISTER ANN DOUBLE EFFECT WATERPROOF EYELINER

K-beauty eyeliner that I’ve bought out of curiosity. Actually I already have a local favorite which never smudge when used as an inner-eyeliner, but yeah I just want to give this a try.

MAKEUP FOR MATURE SKIN: HOW DO I DO MY MAKEUP THESE DAYS

Spot your fave?

The more age we have, the more skin problems we are facing. I’m like seriously thought I’m currently dealing with mature skin problems. After some serious googling, I fit almost for every characteristics of mature skin. Problem number one is Skin Hydration. If you’ve been following me, you’d know that I did Botox and Filler, so I don’t really think that lines and elasticity are a problem for me now. But I can feel that my skin is getting thinner, pores appear larger, papery skin especially on under eyes, though I have less hormonal acnes (which is a plus).

Up, close and personal, no filter!

Don’t get me wrong, I do love makeup. But applying one on mature skin was no joke, people!

First: base makeup.

I’ve been Foundation-Free for about two years now. During pandemic I threw out all of my foundation due to lack of wearing and expiration date. Anyway, it’s not easy to apply foundation to dry skin, and I don’t intend to. Instead, I use green corrector to deal with redness around my nose and my chin, and concealer (yes, concealer) on the whole face. I didn’t apply concealer under my whole eyes, instead I did what Wayne Goss taught us from his YT, only on the very inner corner when the lines are immobile. And finally, setting the whole face, with translucent setting powder.

Cheeks

Only blush, no contouring for me, because I like it simple. My favorite blush is obviously not a matte blush, I prefer a soft metallic finish that reflect light and gives a second-skin finish. I applied not on the cheekbones, but slightly higher for a lifting effect. No highlighter needed, save time and money!

Eyes

I have droopy eyes since I was born, so winged eyeliner is a must. I use tape to draw the winged eyeliner, stick them on the outer corner of the eyes toward the end of the brows. It’s easier that way, trust me, and it gave me the precise and balanced flick. And use the eyeliner pencil to line inside the lash line (but just on the center, not on the corner to avoid smudging). For mascara, I just apply on the middle and lower lashes for that baby doll look.

Lips

Definitely staying out of matte texture that might exaggerate lip lines. Currently I’m using Lip Gel, that mimic lip stain a la Koreans. If you want more shine, do not blot. Do pick a bright shade, because it’ll help to also brighten the whole face. I also try to avoid lip liner, because IMHO natural shape lips gives more youthful look.

Tips
To make makeup last longer, avoid layering too many skincare products. Stick to serum and SPF or moisturizer and SPF, remember: hydrating is key.

REVIEW & SWATCHES LIP GEL BY LIZZIE PARRA

During this pandemic, I have to admit that I rarely wear makeup, might as well any lipsticks. But lately, the condition in Jakarta, Indonesia was getting a lot better, so I attended some offline meetings and meet-ups already (which required one, obviously).

And I feel you, as it’s already hard enough to keep our makeup not melting, it is not easy to find lip color that won’t transfer on the mask. If there’s any, some of them are super matte, made my lips dry and lip lines more noticeable. I believe, the appearance of lips lines will make us look older.

Enter Lip Gel by Lizzie Parra or as we locals said BLP Lip Gel. I believe this was my first time ever trying one, and I’m glad I did. I believe this specific gel texture was introduced by the Koreans, as we see those high shine effect on idols’ lips all the time. Personally, I think it looks like applying nail gel on lips. But, these are quite different. It claims to be a gloss-meets-stain tint that feels extra comfortable on the lips.

I might say, it does feel comfortable, not sticky at all. It contains Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E, that won’t leave our lips dry, with a smoothing effect to lessen the appearance of lips lines. For those who love high shine effect on their lips a la Korean’s Idols, you’d definitely enjoy these. Personally, I love to blot with a piece of tissue, so it only left a natural stain to minimize transfer on the mask.

Do not worry that they will be hard to wash off. Some of us might swatch it on the back of our hand, and found it hard to erase, because of the stains. But our skin on the hand is different from our lips. It is easy to take them off, as long as you are using a specific eye and lip makeup remover (I recommend using the bi-phased ones).

Priced at IDR 109K each, they are also vegan, paraben and cruelty-free. They can also be use as eyeshadow or blush if you wish.

SWEET PEA

Like a dark cherry. It looks darker in person than in this picture, though.

MAGNOLIA
MAGNOLIA

I think this shade suits me the most. I love that it helps to brighten the whole complexion.

CARNATION
CARNATION

It reminds me of poppy flowers. Super if you love red lips.

HOW TO CONCEAL DARK CIRCLES | STEP BY STEP

Big shout out to my friend, Dery from BLP Beauty Team who sent me these concealers to try.

I am a big fan of concealer since the day I knew makeup. And now, on my freelance days during the pandemic, I might not wearing full base makeup, but concealer is still my go-to. Thanks to dark circles and coronasomnia (sleeping problems during pandemic), uneven skin tone, redness here and there.

Got 3 shades to try: Vanilla and Peach are the latest shades. Priced at IDR129K each. Infused with chamomile extract, great for anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-irritant and calming properties.

You can layer for higher coverage. Creamy yet easy to blend, with medium to high coverage and long staying power (great behind the mask). Personally I like more dense texture as it’s easier to apply and blend seamlessly, than liquid ones.

Peach shade is more of a corrector, to cancel out blue and purple hues from dark circles. Apply a little, dab to set and layer with concealer. I used all 3 shades they sent to me: Vanilla, Peach & Light. Please check out the YT videos for the result, and don’t forget to like & subscribe.

#stayhome ? HERE'S BEAUTY RELATED THINGS TO DO

Hope all of you are well. Here where I live, in Jakarta, Indonesia, currently there’s no lockdown for now, but most of us are following the Stay-At-Home advice due to Corona Virus Outbreak.

Anyway, I’ve been a stay at home mom every now and then, so I have no problem with this, kinda enjoy it. But, I can imagine for those who are not, you might be bored as hell. Well, I hope my tips below will help.

WHAMISA ORGANIC FLOWERS TONER

7 SKIN METHOD. Yes, those toner layering stuff. Back in my working days, I didn’t have time to layer my toner until 7 layers. But now, I do enjoy layering them and taking my time in between layers.

TRILOGY ROSAPENE NIGHT CREAM

NECK CARE. While we are busy taking care of our face, we should not, and I repeat, should not neglect our neck skin care. Personally I love to slather night cream as an additional step on my PM skincare routine for neck.

FOREO LUNA 3

DIY FACIAL. Personally, I’m not a big fan of facial at beauty clinic because most of them involve comedo extractions that can cause more damage on my skin. I prefer to do it my self at home, with my own skin care and my latest purchase, FOREO Luna 3 to massage.

FREEMAN MASKS & CREMORLAB OXYGEN PEELING MASK

MULTI MASKING. Those were the days that we didn’t have the time to apply multiple masks on one face. But now, that we have all the time in the world, let’s do this! It’s the perfect timing & opportunity to treat different areas with different needs at the same time.

RATED GREEN & YVES ROCHER

DIY HAIR TREATMENT. Now that we are doing social distancing, it’s impossible to have hair treatment in the hair salon as much as we want to. So, why don’t we do it ourselves? Sure you can’t have the delightful hair massage, but you can apply hair mask, put a cap on and let it be while you’re eating hot instant noodle and watching TV at the same time.

DERMA ROLLER

DERMAROLLING. I do recommend this, especially for those who have deep acne scars. For beginners, try the lowest needle depth (0,25mm) to see if your skin can tolerate it. I did a post on how to do dermarolling, please click here.

READ BEAUTY BOOKS. Running out of Netflix ideas? Well, there are books. These are the best time to finish reading them. Don’t let them collect dusts, and I prefer to read these rather than reading many hoax about Corona Virus in Social Media, or ignorant people that still unaware of the danger of this virus (people, please).

LAVE

TEETH POLISHING. The natural way, that is. Personally I use this charcoal powder, that reminds me a lot of the more expensive ones.

BRUSH CLEANING. Admit it, when was the last time you wash them? Now that we don’t have to put on makeup to go out, don’t you think it’s time to let those brushes rest in clean state?

CLEAN UP VANITY. Never a better timing to toss away expired beauty products, or that lipstick shades that never been worn for more than a year. Clean and organized vanity will sparks joy (and add more space for new ones later), for sure!

REVIEW: ROLLOVER REACTION BATLASH! EYELASH PERFECTOR

Introducing the latest product from one of my favorite local brand.

It’s rare that a local beauty brand launch mascara, since there are lots of world players on this crowded beauty market. So, congrats to Rollover Reaction team.

This mascara only available in shade CARBON, which is a dark black.

They named this “Eyelash Perfector” instead of a good ol’ plain “Mascara”. So, what’s the formulation? Well, it contains copolymer that supposedly laminates every single lash, withstand water and smudging. Yet, it can easily be removed with lukewarm water. It doesn’t contain UV absorbent, paraben, mineral oil, synthetic fragrance and colorant.

Check out the brush. It comes with a helix-shaped brush, a three dimensional curved brush to mimic natural eye shape, and also to create curl & volume. So yes, this can be categorized as a curl & volume mascara. This brush is also make it easier to reach for the corner lash by using its’ tip.

Having a typical Asian’s lashes (read: dead straight), I need curl & definitely need volume for my sparse lashes. Result is natural looking lashes, with no clump with one application. Not sure if it’s waterproof, but it didn’t smudge on me (and I have very oily eyelids). And it’s really easy to wash off at the end of the day.

Priced at IDR149K a pop, BATLASH! Is now available online & offline.
