Introducing the latest product from one of my favorite local brand.
It’s rare that a local beauty brand launch mascara, since there are lots of world players on this crowded beauty market. So, congrats to Rollover Reaction team.
This mascara only available in shade CARBON, which is a dark black.
They named this “Eyelash Perfector” instead of a good ol’ plain “Mascara”. So, what’s the formulation? Well, it contains copolymer that supposedly laminates every single lash, withstand water and smudging. Yet, it can easily be removed with lukewarm water. It doesn’t contain UV absorbent, paraben, mineral oil, synthetic fragrance and colorant.
Check out the brush. It comes with a helix-shaped brush, a three dimensional curved brush to mimic natural eye shape, and also to create curl & volume. So yes, this can be categorized as a curl & volume mascara. This brush is also make it easier to reach for the corner lash by using its’ tip.
Having a typical Asian’s lashes (read: dead straight), I need curl & definitely need volume for my sparse lashes. Result is natural looking lashes, with no clump with one application. Not sure if it’s waterproof, but it didn’t smudge on me (and I have very oily eyelids). And it’s really easy to wash off at the end of the day.
(top) BEFORE (below) AFTER
Priced at IDR149K a pop, BATLASH! Is now available online & offline.
But, do we really need one? Investing in a face primer is necessary for those who want their makeup to last longer. And having a fungal-acne prone skin and adult acnes are still hunting me, it’s not easy to find one that’s safe. But I found them. Read on!
As you might all be aware already, most of primers do contain silicone (which might come in different names on the ingredients’ list like dimethicone), which still become a debate on how they will clogged pores or not. They are widely used for primers, just because they do create a barrier and make sure our skin looks smoother by filling in pores and lines. Unfortunately, some people are allergic to silicone. Those who have acne-prone skin or have rosacea, are not recommended to use anything with silicone as it may occlude pores and make them worse. So, proceed with caution.
Personally, I don’t use primer everyday. I use it when I know I’m going to be out and about for longer hours. Or I use it when I filmed for YouTube and create content for IG and this blog. On daily basis (now that I’m not working full time), I only wear concealer and compact powder as base.
I believe these primers below helped me to create healthy and glowing looking skin. See my ‘before after’ pics, and you’ll agree with me that all the ‘after’ pics do look similar in terms of giving my skin that “not dead matte” look. Lately, I’ve been avoiding matte base as they will settle more on my lines and pores. Well, matte no more!
BLITHE IN BETWEEN AURORA PRIMER & SETTING MIST
As the name stated, we can use this as a primer and/or setting mist. Perfect if you want that glowing look, I’ll let my pics be the judge.
You can also spritz your beauty blender with this, if you wish to glow subtly. Or spray directly and evenly all over the face before foundation, or after makeup to set everything.
PRO: Comes in a spray form, feels lighter on skin than ordinary creamy primers.
CON: By the end of the day, if you live in a humid and hot city like me, you’ll look oily not dewy and fresh like when you initially spray it.
BANILA CO INSTANT FIX PRIMER CLASSIC
Now, this one will keep makeup looking and stay fresh all-day. With its’ gel texture, this apply lightly on skin and very easy to blend. Personally, I use this with damp beauty blender before applying liquid foundation.
PRO: Gave velvet-smooth looking skin and safe for fungal-acne
CON: It’s fragranced
YSL TOP SECRETS INSTANT MOISTURE GLOW
I’m not sure why they categorized this as moisturizer. Probably because unlike other primers that I’ve tried, this actually add hydration. But anyway, I treated this like a primer, because of its’ pore-blurring capability.
PRO: You can feel that moisturizing feeling and it’s safe for fungal-acne. And it looks better at the end of the day (weird but true).
Kudos for By Lizzie Parra (BLP Beauty) for their latest launch, to accommodate Bullet Lipstick lovers like me.
As you might have noticed, lately we all can see the rise of bullet lipsticks from international brands. And I’m enjoying it, because frankly speaking I am team bullet! I found them easier to apply when on the move, they are mostly more creamy and easier to remove by the end of the day. Who’s with me?
Maybe bullet lipsticks are not that long lasting as liquid lipsticks, but I don’t mind touch up throughout the day. Especially if the packaging look cute like these!
BLP Beauty Lip Bullet comes in four new natural shades. Each of the packaging represents the shade inside. And another good thing is you can see the name of the shades clearly printed on the tubes. Although you have to make sure you heard the click sound to close it properly, I found the packaging really helpful rather than you have to see those tiny fonts on the bottom of the packaging.
Mind you, these are not flat matte-lipsticks. I found these lipsticks creamy and extra comfortable when applied, with satin-matte finish. They are buildable, but I’m already satisfied with one layer. And yes, since these are creamy lipstick, they’re transferable. But I don’t mind at all. Make sure you blot first before you eat or drink.
SWATCHES ON HAND
ON MY LIPS – ONE LAYER
BISCOTTI is a peachy brown, but somehow it looks orange on meCANNOLI is beige with a hint of dusty pink. On me it’s mauve. This is my fave!PAVLOVA is a lighter version of CANNOLI. Love this too!LICORICE is supposedly a deep brown, but on me it’s dark red
This month, during Java island’s electricity black out, I attended the launch event of Rollover Reaction’s latest collaboration with Putri Marino, famous Indonesia’s actress who also wrote a killer poem on her IG. And the illustrator behind it is Rachel Ajeng, famous illustrator-painter.
So, what’s in the collection? Well, Di Kala Senja actually embodies sunset, just like Putri’s personalities: bright, warm and genuine. That’s why this collection features two new shades to add to Rollover Reaction’s Chunky! Lip Crayon (read my previous review here). Only the outer packagings are different from the previous Chunky! But the lip crayon inside is the same black matte pencil. And mind you, these are limited edition collection, so better get them before they ran out.
Since I’ve talked about the texture and finish about Chunky! Already, let’s just jump right in to the shades and swatches.
KALA: This is my favorite shade, it’s a nude brown with a hint of orange.SENJA: It’s a deep terracotta red shade.
Somehow, these both lip shades look darker in real life. By the way, you can use these as cheek tint, too if you’re a master of doing it. I have to admit I am suck at doing other blush format than powder. So, I am using these strictly as my lip color only.
Thanks
C&F store for sending me these PR kit to try.
I rarely use
primer for my makeup preparation, just because most primers contain silicone.
And I dislike silicone for its’ texture & feel, and how it can trap dirt,
sweat, bacteria, sebum, dead skin cells and other debris. Read: pore clogging
ingredient. Yikes!
So how did I
prep my makeup? I count on my skincare steps, obviously. Until I tried these
two from Blithe InBetween series. This series from Blithe (a Korean brand) feature
multitasking products, which not only nourish and hydrate, but also prep for a
makeup-ready skin. They are fall into the hybrid category that combines
skincare and makeup. They’re not tested on animals, and smells like lavender.
Respectively priced between IDR 520K and 620K, they’re not cheap (I know), but
let’s decide are they good enough to try.
BLITHE INBETWEEN MAKEUP PREP ESSENCE
As the name stated, this is a prep essence. Yes, a lightweight serum that creates a protective layer on skin surface to lock in moisture and prevent makeup from clogging pores. It made with fermented soybean, rice and tomato leaf extract that fortifies skin’s natural barrier. Plus squalane and ceramide to nourish and hydrate for a makeup-ready complexion.
BLITHE INBETWEEN INSTANT GLOWING CREAM
This is a
hybrid moisturizer-primer. Made with squalane and tomato leaf extract (rich in
antioxidant), this will help to nourish and fortify skin’s natural moisture
barrier. This is also vegan, organic and cruelty-free.
Don’t be fooled
by the white cream texture, once applied on skin, it’ll create that ‘skin
prism’ effect. It’ll give extra glow with natural pearlescence effect.
BLITHE IN BETWEEN HYDRO PRIMING CREAM
BLITHE INBETWEEN HYDRO PRIMING CREAM
As the name
stated, this provides hydration and priming at the same time. Its’ texture is
more elastic than their Instant Glowing Cream. Yes dearest, if our skin is
well-hydrated, makeup will look fresh all day with the help of this. Number one
ingredient is Bifida Ferment Filtrate which well known for its’ antioxidant
purpose.
HOW I WEAR THEM IN MY INBETWEEN SKIN CARE
& MAKEUP ROUTINE?
I use one
product depend on my skin’s need that day. For daily use, I prefer the Essence.
Glowing cream is best for party look, while Hydro ones will save my day when my
skin is drier for some reasons and need some lifting action. Though there are
no instructions whatsoever on the packaging, I applied it after my SPF in my AM
Routine. Wait a while until it’s absorbed, then apply liquid foundation and the
rest of makeup.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
ARE THEY SAFE FOR FUNGAL ACNE?
They won’t clog pores because they don’t use silicones. Unfortunately they’re not safe for Fungal Acne (for their Saccharomyces, Polysorbate and Peg ingredients). But, as these applied on top of sunscreen, at the very last step before makeup, they didn’t trigger mine. Anyway, better be cautious for those who still suffer from ones. They also claim that these will help your makeup cleansing process easier at night. But anyway, if you double cleanse with balm or oil, any makeup will slides off easily.
Woohoo!!! Another K-Brand is entering J-Town. This time is Banila Co. Thanks to C&F Store for sending me these.
I’ve been
eyeing on their Cleansing Balm for awhile, but moving on back and forth to
purchase it because of my sudden fungal-acne attack. Yes, unfortunately most of
cleansing balms contain Ethylhexyl Palmitate (noted as fungal acne trigger on
skincarisma.com). But I can see why this is such a hype product for beauty
enthusiast. First, their packaging is very ‘now’, looking very instagramable, and
instead of renewing just the packaging, they also updated the formula. For the
Original (the pink jar), there used to be mineral oil in their ingredients, but
they replaced it with natural ester oil. I just wish there are fungal-acne safe
cleansing balm out there (please let me know if there’s any).
Fungal-Acne Safe Primer, yeay!!!
There’s one
that is actually safe for fungal-acne, and I’ve enjoyed using so far. It’s not
silicone-free, though (hello it’s a primer, so no surprise there). Their
Classic Primer. Comes in a pump bottle, it is a makeup primer with satin
finish. Yes, you heard me correctly. It is rare that a primer comes in a satin,
not matte finish. I use this occasionally though, as primer is not a must
makeup step for me.
Before Classic Primer (Left) & After Classic Primer (Right)
One
interesting product, their Sun Primer. It is a primer plus sun protection, so
perfect for traveling to save baggage. If you have no problem with fungal acne,
you will love this (it contains Ethylhexyl Palmitate, which might trigger
fungal acne according to skincarisma.com).
As for their
range of makeup named B. by Banila, they sent me Lipdraw Melting Serum Stick
and Liplike Lip Slip. Love their super simple but very instagramable tubes.
Lipdraw Melting Serum Stick
Lipdraw
Melting Serum Stick is perfect for those who love gradient lips look. It felt
melting when applied on lips, maybe because it contains argan oil and honey
extract that feel very moisturizing.
Liplike Lip Slip
Liplike Lip Slip is a lip lacquer that combines the color pay-off of a lipstick, the moisture of a lip gloss and the longevity of a lip tint. How awesome! It is lightweight and looks matte on lips. Might purchase another shade as I’m so not into reds.
Now you can purchase all the originals Banila Co at some C&F Stores, or online here.
Thanks
Sulwhasoo Indonesia for sending me this liquid foundation for an honest review.
Love the luxurious packaging
I believe
most of Korean foundation designed to look as natural as possible. This one,
too. Infused with sea buckthorn berries (which is rich in antioxidants), and
powered with Sheer Hydra Formula Technology, this foundation adheres to skin
gently, with a natural glowing finish. The formula contains non-oily
moisturizing ingredients for that fresh powdery finished look and long-lasting
effect.
Given to me is shade No 23
Unfortunately,
according to skincarisma.com, this foundation is not fungal-acne safe due to
one of its’ ingredient (Sorbitan Sesquioleate), but it’s not one of the top 5
main ingredients. If you don’t have any problem with fungal acne, it should be
fine.
Bare FacedUsing the foundation, set with loose powder
I went to
the launch of Trilogy in Jakarta last week, and they claim that this specific
product sold every 20 seconds around the world. Is it that good?
First, why
did I choose this over two others? Rosehip Oil Antioxidant+ contains Cranberry
Seed Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil that might trigger Fungal-Acne. Similar with
Rosehip Oil Light Blend, it contains Jojoba Seed Oil and Cranberry Seed Oil.
Big no for Fungal-Acne. Meanwhile, the Certified Organic Rosehip Oil contains
100% Rose Canina (Rosehip) Seed Oil, which is totally safe for Fungal-Acne.
If you’ve
been reading my blog posts, you’ll know that I did electrocauter to get rid of
milias and sebaceous hyperplasia that I had last year. And to get rid of the
scars from the treatment, was a challenge. I’ve tried this and that to make the
scars from cauterization healed faster, and when I stumbled upon this specific
oil, I was hooked. Until now.
You see, Trilogy
Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is a 100% pure organic rosehip oil that works not
only to prevent skin aging, but also to assist skin renewal and repair. It is
also clinically proven to help scars and damage skin. So yeah, no wonder it
really worked to help me clear out my cauter scars. For scars, I used this on
the very end step of my PM skincare routine.
Bare Faced. Left – not using oil. Right – using oil.
Then, after
all the cauter scars were gone, I’m still using it until today. For different
purpose, that is. I mixed this with foundation to give me that radiant healthy
glow. Because of its’ oil texture, I believe it will blend well with any liquid
foundation. Check out the difference when I’m using the oil and not.
Can you tell? When using the oil, skin doesn’t look dead matte. It glows naturally.
By the way, Trilogy is a brand from New Zealand. Come to think of it, this is the first and the only Australian’s skincare product that I purchased. Now you can get them here in Indonesia at some C&F stores (they carry only 15 SKU’s for now). Or you can buy them online, here.
Thanks
Rollover Reaction team for sending me this PR Kit before they even launch this
on March 25, 2019.
So, is it a
cushion? Or is it a tinted moisturizer? Or both?
Use the puff to applyMy given shade is the lightest (perfect shade) Custard Tart
You see,
cushion is ‘the house’ for the liquid inside (it is a packaging format). Most
brands filled it with liquid foundation. But being Rollover Reaction, they
filled it with tinted moisturizer. To tell you the truth, I was being skeptical
at first, because I thought this is going to be one sheer base like most tinted
moisturizer out there. Boy, I was wrong!
I only use one layer! No concealer, no filter!
This didn’t
just cover well, but (I guess because one of the ingredient is caffeine) it
perked up my complexion. And since this is also formulated with sunscreen SPF27,
you can carry this for touch-ups during the day. Reapply over makeup and voila!
You can get sun protection all day too.
Comes in 3 adaptable shades. Names inspired by Asian desserts.
But, talking
about the ingredients, I’ve noticed Stearic Acid on the list down below.
According to SkinCarisma.com, it is a fungal-acne trigger. So better watch out
if you are prone to fungal-acne.
You’ll enjoy
this if:
You are not feeling like going heavy on foundation
You love natural-looking cushion (not dewy nor matte)
You like versatile products that can go with you anywhere (thanks to its’ cute packaging)
You expect medium to high coverage tinted moisturizer in a compact
Thanks Shu
Uemura Indonesia for sending me this for an honest review.
If you have
trouble finding a tailor-made liquid foundation for Asian skin, look no
further. I’m sure you’ll find your perfect shade from this product range. Mine
is shade #764 Medium Light Beige, perfect for my current skin tone.
Be aware of the top 5 ingredients which include PEG-30 Dipolyhydroxystearate (identified as Fungal Acne trigger on skincarisma.com).
Without
further adieu, let’s see how this foundation looked on my face.
BARE FACEONLY FOUNDATIONSET WITH LOOSE POWDER
Tips: Don’t use too much if you have oily skin.
Go buy this
if you like:
