BEST EYE MAKEUP FOR NO EYELIDS LADIES

No lids? No sweat. Here’s how to do your eye makeup, the Fall 2013 style.

Anthony Vaccarello : Use an intense pop of color like deep burgundy. Leave the rest of makeup matte and try a no mascara look for a change.

Douglas Hannant : Neutral color is always a winner. Line upper and lower lids with black liquid eyeliner for definition. White eyeliner pencil on the bottom lids will make your eyes look wider, try it.

Helmut Lang : Strong brows are good compliment for no eyelids ladies, so make sure you shape your eyebrows perfectly. Apply eyeshadow base/primer and try a glossy color for a modern yet edgy look.

Derek Lam : Play with eyeshadow textures for more minimal and sophisticated look. Metallic shimmer on the center of eyelids will give an iridescent touch to the whole face.

Dolce & Gabbana : Inspiration, Sophia Loren. Flicked eyeliner is the best trick to achieve the feline style, and don’t forget that crimson lips to compliment this glamour look.

WHAT KIND OF MAKEUP THEY’RE USING ON THE SET?

I love Scandal, the TV Series. And seriously, this is the nicest (not to mention) beautiful informative way to share with their fans.

The series, where Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington) portrayed as a very smart fixer lady who falls head over heels for the President of the United States of America, always intrigued me somehow. Their scandalous relationship, problems, and as a beautyholic, I always wondered what beauty products the makeup team really using on the set.

Et Voila! Enter Pinterest, and the makeup team from Scandal shared the wonderful beauty products they’re using on the set. From the filler to line up wrinkles (whoa!), right down to all purpose skin cream. Wondering what kind of concealers or lipstick numbers (yes, they even note the numbers), they’re using? Go to their Pinterest, now.

EVERY WOMAN CAN LOOK BEAUTIFUL …

… with the right foundation.

In the beauty world, there are some people who made mistakes they don’t realize. And the number one mistake is: choosing the wrong foundation shade. Then again, we’re only human, born to make mistakes. And thankfully, some mistakes can be corrected. Thanks to Estee Lauder, now we all can have the perfect shade for our foundation.

Last Friday, six bloggers (including me) were invited by Estee Lauder Indonesia to experience the latest shades of Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup. There are 10 ‘Asian Friendly’ shades available from this 15 hours staying power liquid foundation. And at the bloggers’ event in Metro Department Store, Plaza Senayan, Jakarta, we learned so much about the product itself and how to apply the perfect base makeup, Estee Lauder’s style.

There are three things that we have to remember before buying a foundation. Skin tone, coverage and finish. “Many Indonesian women chose the wrong shades of foundation for their skin tone. They prefer it to be lighter than their own. But we at Estee Lauder believe that you shouldn’t look like wearing any makeup  at all. Foundation is not supposed to be seen,” explained Erfan Haryando, Communication Executives Estee Lauder Indonesia.

That’s when Estee Lauder iMatch Shade Finder comes for the rescue. It’s not what you think it is, it’s not an electronic gadget. It actually reminds me of those Pantone Color Guide. “We use this to determine the intensity and undertone of your skin color, so you can have the exact foundation shade,” said Erfan. And the best thing to try many shades of foundations is to apply on our jaw (seen on the model above), then blend with sponge. If you can’t see it, that means it’s the perfect shade.

After we found our shade, now what? Apply them correctly. Estee Lauder has three exclusive tricks to score a perfect base makeup.

1 Foundation Flower : think of our face as a flower and our nose as the petal. Avoid applying too much foundation by using a foundation brush, instead of our own hands. It will distribute the foundation evenly and reach those difficult areas, like sides of nose. Apply on one area at a time, sparingly.

2 Fatigue Fighter : for that dark circles, mix liquid concealer with eye cream before applying. Use concealer brush.

3 Powder Roll On : tap excess powder before lightly patting by rolling the flat side of the powder brush from one side of face to another.

MAKE UP TIME : HOW LONG DO YOU NEED?

Unless you have your own glam team, some (well, OK…most) of us don’t really have two hours to sit tight and do our makeup.

Check out your own routine. If you’re a simple type, all you need are probably loose powder and lipstick. But, seriously..who do that nowadays? Me? I need minimal 30 minutes to get ready and I am definitely NOT a morning person. At all. But this is what I do if I only have 5 minutes to spare (thanks to waking up late-I’m only human).

Minute 1 : After my skin care routine (cleanser, toner and serum), I’ll apply BB or (lately) CC Cream. They are easier and faster to blend than liquid foundation. I finish with a pat of loose powder to eliminate unwanted shine.

Minute 2 : Sweep one color of eyeshadow. I prefer the one with shimmer texture and natural color, as it’s fool proof and will make my eyes look brighter.

Minute 3 : Line eyes with pencil, preferably in dark brown. Easier to smudge with cotton bud, no need to hassle with eyeliner brush. Then, curl the lashes sans mascara.

Minute 4 : Dust the apples of cheeks with a shimmery powder blush. It will give that extra freshness I need.

Minute 5 : Finish the whole makeup with sheer lipstick or tinted lip balm. Another fast and fool proof trick to stop me from looking pale.

Personally, I believe this 5 minutes makeup is just like putting on a good base for later touch ups during the day. You can always add up whenever you have the time later on, such as concealer for under eyes, mascara, and that red hot lipstick.

DYNAMIC DUOS

My eternal search (and maybe yours, too) for that perfect under eyes concealer might be over.

Call me a late bloomer for falling in love with Korean beauty products. Guilty as charged. But as they said, “better late than never”, so did my experience with SKINFOOD Salmon Darkcircle Concealer Cream and SKINFOOD Salmon Darkcircle Powder.

The almost look identical products (both only 2.5gr, by the way), don’t smell like salmon. Taken from the SKINFOOD web site, the concealer contains salmon extract and oil, while the powder is rich in omega 3 fatty acid, vitamin A & E, with Nano-coating.

Too bad for us Indonesians, these dynamic duos are not available in Jakarta yet, so the nearest country to get them is Singapore or Malaysia. I got mine in Malaysia, both for RM 106.80 (you don’t have to buy in a set, they come separately). For the concealer, the nice girl at SKINFOOD Malaysia chose #1 (Salmon Blooming) for me, and the powder only come in one color.

What do I love about both:

Texture : The concealer is creamy, yet it didn’t leave any shine especially after I applied the powder. As for the powder, its’ super duper tiny particles (thanks to Nano-coating) set the whole concealer into a matte, soft and non-cracked looking under eyes. For above picture, I only use one (yes, one) layer of concealer and powder, after eye cream.

Blending Factor : Like soul mates, they were meant to be together. In this case, use together. Never swipe on concealer as it might show those lines, just pat lightly from inside corner to outer corner. Set with powder, dust them lightly with your own brush (don’t use the tiny puff provided which comes with the powder).

Coverage : Dark circles? What dark circles? Lines? What lines? I’m surprised to see how they also covered most of my milias (see those tiny bumps under my left eye? Perfect for corrective concealing of any kind, I must say.

NEW KIND OF SNOW

The latest BB product from Laneige which actually feels cold as snow when applied.

BB Cream, is actually stands for Blemish Balm, but this BB from a Korean beauty brand which will re-open its’ first counter in Jakarta by March 2013, is totally different from any other.

Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion SPF 50 PA+++ (shown here in #21 Natural Beige) is a base makeup with BB function in liquid texture, not balm, not cream. Even the compact packaging is already different from any other BB, which usually come in tube.

Open the seal, and press gently to the cushion (don’t swipe) to pick it up. The first sensation when I applied, was that cooling feeling. No wonder they called it Snow. As for me, I like how the blue sponge (provided inside the compact) picked up the liquid evenly. It was so easy to apply, I just pat the sponge all over my face, including to both sides of the noses (my own ‘troubled’ zone). I admit I was quite surprised to see how well the coverage was, considering its’ very light (almost watery) texture. See the ‘after’ picture above, check out my under eyes circles and red spots covered quite well. As for the shades, I believe it suits my tone well, not too pinkish or yellowish, it just brighten the whole skin tone.

For my experiment, I still used my own moisturizer, but I skipped sunblock, as it already have a very broad sun protection. I patted on extra loose powder and voila! My face looked more matte and it stayed that way afterwards for about 4 hours on Jakarta’s humid and blazing heat.

According to the release from Laneige, this is an all in one product which offers whitening, sun protection, sweat and sebum resistance, soothing sensation and prevents makeup from fading. For me, it really did what it said and I really recommend this BB for those of you who have oily skin and eager to try BB product minus the heavy feeling and too creamy texture. And guess what? They came with a refill, so it’s really convenient to reuse the whole thing.

NEW LIPSTICKS TO TRY : CRAYONS!

I’m in love with jumbo lip pencils. Pronto.

It seems like almost every beauty brands have one, from Revlon to Nars. Even Kate Spade came up with one. They called it Colorful Lipstick Crayons. Yes, this is a grown up version of crayons to put on your lips. Inspiring and creative collaboration between Kate Spade and Poppy King (the lipstick queen), I just love the playful packaging and the trio chubby lip pencils inside, named: Pop, Fizz and Cheers!.

As any chubby pencils, they’re unbelievably easy to apply, with the help of very creamy and moisturizing texture. I was using lip balm underneath in the above pictures, but I did skip lip gloss as they already give enough shine. Richly pigmented (just like they wrote in the box), we are encourage to mix the three colors as we wish. I believe the Fizz color is the shade that can tone down two other shades and add shimmers to the almost matte colors.

Anyway, I tried three individual crayons (it’s twist up, so no need for sharpener) by its’ own. Start with lined the lips, then fill them up with one swipe (cause I don’t like thick colors on mine). Their long lasting power is great and like crayons for kids, they’re fun to play with. Try if you don’t trust me.

POP – shocking pink

FIZZ – shimmer peach

CHEERS! – coral red

THE GREAT AND BEAUTIFUL

Ahh…the never ending story of the wizard and the witches. Now comes in palettes.

Yup, Urban Decay launched two limited edition palettes, inspired by the Disney’s movie, “OZ, The Great and Powerful”. The movie will be out this March and Mila Kunis will star as Theodora and Michelle Williams as Glinda.

Meanwhile, the two palettes named (what else?) The Glinda Palette and The Theodora Palette, will be in stores (not here in Jakarta of course), on January 25, 2013. Comes in a sleek tin with the OZ artwork, each featured 6 shades of eye shadows, with lip gloss & (UD’s must have) 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil.

They’re supposedly enable us to recreate makeup looks just like Mila and Michelle in the movie. Ahh….choices…choices…even for makeup we have to choose between good and evil.

MY (NOT SO) FUNNY VALENTINE

Valentine’s day. It’s not all about everything pink.

Apparently, Brit’s brand Illamasqua shared my thought exactly. Check out their capsule collection for Valentine 2013. Eccentric model with a broken hearted look, no pink in sight. Instead, peach and mauve shades are dominant for this “Broken Heart” collection. Only 5 products will be launch, false eye lashes, cream blusher, lipstick, intense lipgloss and nail varnish.

CELEBRATING THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE…

In MAC Cosmetics style.

Supposedly the year of the black snake (however creepy it might sound), this snake inspired limited edition will be launch next month.

Expect sexy and shiny effect glitters, with chic packaging. Check out those snake embossed! If you’re not Ophidiophobia (that is fear of snakes), this collection might be your next beauty treat.
