LITTLE MISS BUSY

Yup, it has been a hectic week for me.

I promise to update as soon as I can, folks. Meanwhile, please check out my work (lots of them), in conjunction with the most anticipated fashion event in Jakarta, Indonesia, Jakarta Fashion Week 2014.

FASHION STYLING IS ALWAYS FUN

Whether you realized it or not, we do it every single morning. What to wear? Do these outfits look good on me? Are they proper for today’s activities?

Personally, I am a great believer of personal styling. Nobody understand yourself better than you. That’s why I love high street brands, they do give us ability to mix and match our wardrobe without breaking the bank. One of my favorite high street brand is DOROTHY PERKINS from the UK. Recently, they launched their latest Autumn/Winter capsule collection, named Style Essentials. I’m lucky to be one of the bloggers to collaborate with Dorothy Perkins for this perfect collection of 10 key pieces to update Autumn/Winter look.

I found this range as very easy to wear and more long lasting. Being a mother/blogger/owner of an accessories online store, I’m practically leading a busy life and in desperate need of looking effortlessly stylish all the time. And Style Essentials by Dorothy Perkins come to my rescue. From sculpted tee, 2 in 1 dress, fit and flare dress, pencil skirt, blouse & skinny pants/leggings, they made me feel like I’m having a whole new wardrobe staples. And their prices are more affordable too. Yeay for that!

See how I mixed matched Dorothy Perkins Style Essentials Collection and feel free to explore your own style, as they’re already available in Jakarta, Indonesia. Always remember that your style is yours!

SPRING SUMMER, KARDASHIAN STYLE

This is how the Kardashian’s sisters saw Spring Summer through their fashion collaboration with Dorothy Perkins.

Yes, the second batch from Kardashian Kollection by Dorothy Perkins is coming to Jakarta tomorrow. So, Kardashian’s sisters fans out there, be prepared to go to Dorothy Perkins’ stores in Grand Indonesia and Central Park (FYI, there are only two stores in Jakarta which carry this Kollection).

I was invited to their VIP Preview today at Grand Indonesia, and have a chat with an insider about how successful the first Kollection was. Apparently, Indonesia sold the most Kardashian Kollection Autumn/Winter 2012 compared to our neighbors in South East Asia. Wow, Kongratulations!

So, what to expect from the Spring Summer 2013 Kollection? Definitely more fresh color, even though there are still black here and there. Graphic prints, body con dresses, light jacket in ombre colors, and a series of cute clutches and sling bags. I can still see the sisters’ individual style in the whole Kollection, like the glamourous body con dresses are so Kim, the loose tops are so Kourtney and the black leather lined leggings are so Khloe. Yes, there is something for everyone.

TIME AFTER TIME

Can’t get enough of Givenchy?

If you’re a die-hard Givenchy connoisseur, you’ll be thrilled to hear that Riccardo Tisci has decided to relive the watches collection. As you might know and realized by now, the previous Givenchy watches collection was discontinued in 2009.

Each named after a prime number and featuring such luxuries as gold plate, interchangeable straps, and a distinctively rugged feel, the collection is exclusively available at Colette, Barneys New York (in NYC and Beverly Hills), 10 Corso Como in Milan, Seoul’s Boon the Shop, Selfridges, and selected Givenchy stores. The watches will hit a wider range of boutiques in September.

I AM NOT INTO SPORT, BUT I’M INTO THIS SPORT….

….max Resort Collection 2014.

Unlike any resort collection that somehow seem to “resorty” for me, fashion Director Grazia Malagoli took my attention to write about Sportmax Resort 2014 collection.

Inspired by photographs of businessmen in the Nineties (hello Wall Street), Grazia Malagoli put a feminine touch and styling on a more serious tailoring. It’s truly a believable masculinity meets femininity at its’ best.

STILL LOOKING FOR THAT “PERFECT” SHIRT?

Ah…the never ending quest of a classic fashion item.

Carolina Herrera is a big fan of a white shirt. Such a big fan, once she said, “Trends may come and go, but nothing will ever beat a white shirt.” Errrr…she is a designer and I personally think she never had a problem with that open gape over the bust. But for us, it’s still a big homework to find the perfect one. Once I’ve ever tried that fashion trick to put on double-sided tape, and failed. It helped to keep the gape closed, but that gooey sticky thing ruined my white shirt for good.

Tired of fixing the shirt gape, I’ve lost my interest in any shirt. Until I’ve heard about “The shirt by Rochelle Behrens”. She cleverly came up with the solution for this small but pretty annoying problem. Her dual button technology seamlessly designed into each of the shirt, making sure it’ll remain close until you’ve decided to take it off. How awesome!

Instead of just classic shirts made from Italian cotton, this label is expanding to silk blouses and shirt dresses as well. I love their silk shirt dresses, which can easily go from day to night with all the right NOW colors. Currently sold in the US (Bloomingdales and Fred Segal) & Canada.

“STYLE IS A WAY TO SAY …

who you are without having to speak.” Rachel Zoe.

As much as I hate to say the cliché “don’t judge the book by its’ cover”, but this world we’re living in is JUDGEMENTAL. We might not be a reality star TV which is being followed everywhere by the cameras, but looking sloppy could trigger some staring and sharp comments. That’s why (secretly or not) we dreamed of that runway look.

But, do we really have to dress up everyday and style ourselves for hours before we walk out our door every day? Fortunately, not. That’s what I learned when I attended TRESemmé Indonesia’s event “Your Access to Runway Beauty” last Thursday in Senayan City, Jakarta, Indonesia. Because we’re not Kate Moss who can pull off a stylish look just to get our groceries, fellow Indonesian blogger/fashion stylist Dewi Utari shared her “how to pull of Spring Summer 2013 trend into every day life”. On two models, she showed us the magic of styling, which involved a tight leopard dress and embellished top and mini skirt without looking overboard by adding jackets as an accent.

At the event, Herman Tjoa from Talents Salon, also shared his tips for daily makeup and hair styling. Spotted: bright blue eyeliner and matte fuchsia lips for makeup, which are so Spring Summer 2013. And what intrigued me and (I bet) all the guests at the event, were his various tips on daily hair styling. Natural, undone and messy hair to be achieved by hair tousle, the right tools and of course (the most important ones) hair styling products. On models, Herman applied hair mousse to bring out the best of hair texture. And he also shared how to spray hair spray correctly, since most women seem to exaggerate on hair spray application. Actually, just one spritz for each section that you want to hold longer is enough. Check out the picture above how Herman told one of the models to bend down so he could shake her hair to break the tight curls and bring out the volume. Apparently, it’s that easy to achieve salon’s hair at home by ourselves if we have the right products and know how’s.

The last but certainly not the least session of “Your Access to Runway Beauty” event was the appearance of Top 3 Asia’s Next Top Model (ANTM). When Jessica from Thailand (she’s the winner by the way), Kate from Taiwan and Stephanie from Philippines showed up, the crowds cheered for these three TV’s reality stars which look way taller and prettier in person. First visit ever to Indonesia, the ANTM’s trio shared their beauty tips and makeover experience during the show’s filming. If you remember, doing their own hair styling was one of the challenge for the models and TRESemmé was the hair official sponsor for ANTM. Jessica, Kate and Stephanie rocked the runway for the finale with their ultra shiny hair, albeit the different hair style. It was great to see and chat with them in person, they do have that same personas as we saw in the TV show and great looking hair.

REMEMBERING LILLY PULITZER

The master of cheerful prints, Lilly Pulitzer passed away yesterday at the age of 81.

It all started when she was just trying to disguise juice stains from her own dress from selling lemonade from her first husband’s orchards. So, she made a shift dress out of colorful shower curtains. The rest is history, when first lady Jackie Kennedy (eventually, her former classmate) was photographed for Life Magazine wearing one of Lilly’s design.

Even though she retired 30 years ago from her own label, her design team continues to paint colorful prints. Lilly Pulitzer’s last collaboration is with Estee Lauder for the Spring Summer 2013 collection and with Swarovski Elements for girls’ dresses.

LET THERE BE PASTEL

It’s just too hot here. And as a dark colors devotee, I surrender.

Suddenly all my blacks and greys seem too harsh for this weather, and it’s time to hibernate. Now that pastel colors are literally everywhere, from high street to high end brands, I hope I’ll find my love affair with the goody goody colors.

Not that I hate pastel colors. I love looking at them, I just think they’re too sweet for my liking. Truly, I can’t imagine looking at myself in the mirror wearing pastel. But clicking through J.Crew site, I found pastels even me can’t resist to wear. Eyelet capri pants, scalloped sling back flats, gingham shirt, color block clutch…these are the kind of pastel that I wouldn’t mind seeing  myself in. Now I’m convinced to make that transition.

STRICTLY FOR LADIES

When in doubt, and yes when you’re having one of those bad hair days, wear headband.

It’s one of the Spring 2013 trend, and a look that’s super easy to pull of by anyone. But how on earth can we differ ourselves from those elementary school girls?

  • First: slim is way better than wide. Blair Waldorf’s style is over, people.
  • Embellishments such as crystals, pearls, studs will put an adult stamp on your look.
  • Think of your hair style. Don’t just brush your hair, swept them up (like Olivia’s hairstylist did) or put a flick on the ends (like Kerry’s hairstylist did).
  • Dress your age, dear. Go for more structured ensemble, and stick to solid (not pastel) colors.
