BAD FACIAL: WHAT TO DO?

There’s nothing worse than painful comedo extraction that left my face like tons of open wound.

THE NIGHT AFTER THE BAD FACIAL

Thanks to my super-sensitive skin, my skin will become red and looked worse painful comedo extraction. And yes, I do hate those traditional method when the therapist did cleansing, then straight to steaming only for a few minutes and start pricking, pressing and popping. I’m sure until today there’s still debate on “should you really pop up everything in facial treatment room?”

I am an anti-extraction. I don’t like the pain (it hurts like hell) and the after-math. But, things are done, and all I can do is to let my skin to calm down, soothe and heal them after all the aggressive treatment.

  1. Let them be for at least 6 hours after. Don’t touch, don’t pick, and avoid using makeup at all costs. Just go home straight after the treatment and sulk (LOL). Feel burned? Spray VICHY Mineralizing Thermal Water in between, and let it dry by itself.
  2. After 6 hours passed, do double cleanse. I use Bioderma Sensibio H2O first (with cotton pads), then Drunk Elephant Beste No 9 Jelly Cleanser after. Gently pat dry with soft, dry and clean towel.
  3. Skip toner. Instead, I use this DIY Oatmeal solution (chill them inside the fridge, because cold temperature might help to reduce redness, irritation and puffiness). Dampened the compressed sheet-mask inside the icy cold solution, put it on for about 20 minutes.
  4. Or if you don’t have time to make your own sheet mask, I do recommend BE PLAIN Bamboo Healing Mask. Infused in bamboo water, this will help to soothe and refresh. Keep it in the fridge, as cold stuff will help lessen the inflammation.
  5. While my skin is still damp, I apply APIEU Madecassoside Ampoule. You see Madecassoside is known as best solution for damaged skin from dryness. Pat gently to absorb then move on to next step.
  6. Serum. I use this AQULABO Vinyasa Calming Serum. As the name stated, it’s a calming serum to reduce stress on the skin after a horrible extraction.
  7. Don’t forget to (still) hydrate your skin. I personally love ISNTREE Hyaluronic Acid Water Essence, because it has been tested as a low irritation skin care product.
  8. Avene Tolerance Extreme Emulsion is the final step, just to make sure that on your skin’s most sensitive state, it will stay hydrated, soft and supple. Oh did I mention, this calm the redness too?

Extra tips:

  • When your skin feels inflamed with burning sensation after facial, you might want to consider drinking an Ibuprofen pill to ease any pain.
  • Stay out of the sun, and keep cool (literally). Warm weather will worsen the burn sensation, so it’s best to stay indoor while healing and turn on that AC.
ONE WEEK AFTER THE FACIAL (STILL HEALING WITH NEW ZITS POPPING)

Remember that each of us human beings have different pain tolerance and healing level. While my skin took longer to heal all those scabs and back to their original state, yours might not. So again, I do recommend (again and again) to listen to your skins’ needs before you do any facial treatments.

WHERE DO I GO FOR FACIAL?

I got questions about this a lot.

Frankly speaking I don’t like facial that involves acne or blackhead extraction. It hurts. The only thing that I love about facial is simply the massage. Don’t we all?

But then again, we all need facial. At least, once a month to clear out those clogged pores because a simple exfoliation with scrub at home just won’t do if you have problematic skin like me. Please don’t try to pinch that thing out of your skin, because it’ll cause pores trauma (yes, pores can have traumas) and make them look larger than life. 

I trust JAKARTA AESTHETIC CLINIC to do my facial. They called it “COMEDONES PEELING” (peeling komedo in my languange-bahasa). The clinic itself doesn’t look like an ordinary clinic, I always feel like going to a spa when I entered their door. Private rooms with spa music and very modern and comfortable chair, this skin clinic belongs to dr. Olivia Ong, dipl. AAAM, an aesthetician and Anti-Aging Specialist. 

Here are the steps of the treatment:

1. Cleansing to remove makeup, dirt and oil with cleansing milk and facial foam.

2. Peeling will be applied on clean skin. It’s a very straight forward procedure, using a clear peeling gel (which is exclusively available in this clinic). This peeling gel will absorb into the skin to soften any clogged pores in about 3 minutes with hot steam on, therefore it’ll be easier for the beautician to extract the comedones later.

3. Extraction process is less painful than the other facials I’ve tried elsewhere. That’s because of the peeling which already soften the comedones and during the extraction, hot steam will always on.

4. Mask time. Using a clear gel mask with a cold steam. Don’t worry, it’s not as cold as you imagine..just like a cool breeze which I believe will tone down the redness after extraction process. Mask will not be hardened after 10 minutes recommended time with cold steam always on. 

The whole process only took about 30 minutes. Very simple yet effective facial.

YEAY! IT’S FACIAL TIME

It has been a while since I blog (sorry, just so busy) and had a facial. Big thanks to Sociolla and Menard, I had a chance to do their special facial treatment at the launch of AUTHENT MASK.

Before the facial, me and fellow press were having a gala dinner at Dian Ballroom, Raffles Hotel Jakarta. At the gala, Menard Expert from Japan, Mr. Yasuhiro Iwata explained about the latest sheet mask from Menard. Claimed to increase the number of epidermal and dermal stem cells, this mask is quite interesting.

They have two sheets in a box, one for face and one for neck. Yes, neck. Many of us (including me, oooppss) neglected….well…overlook the neck and decolletage area in our skincare regime. Apparently, Menard realised the importance of this matter, when they created this mask to celebrate their 55th anniversary.

Contains the same active ingredients as the Authent Cream (like bamboo fungus), they will help strengthen and encourage collagen production. These two sheets mask also smell wonderful, thanks to the sweet cherry seed extract used.

While they recommend to apply the Authent Cream (above pic) nightly, it only take 15 minutes once a week to wear Authent Mask. I wish they allow us to leave them more longer, but no. The mask is engineered to sit there only for 15 minutes or else the dry sheet will absorb the ingredients back from our skin. And of course, we didn’t want that to happen.

The whole experience was superb, yet educational because the therapist showed us the steps before applying the Authent Mask for maximal result.

The steps are quite long, but very enjoyable nevertheless: cleanse, tone, massage, scrub, mask. I love the massage, soft strokes yet powerful Shiatsu points that can help to improve blood and lymph flow, therefore improving nutrient flow to the skin. It felt so relaxing, I wish it was longer. LOL.

The therapist used Embellir Range for my face and Authent Cream & Mask as the final step. Yup, Authent Mask is supposed to be use on clean skin after face massage with Authent Cream, as night skin care. I recommend to use them while laying down, to keep the mask in tact. You’ll love the cool feeling and the neck mask actually feel tighten when applied correctly.

Check out the glow after the facial (pic above). My skin felt really dewy and plump after the facial. And the therapist said the glow will stay there for a week until the next usage of the mask. Oh wow! 

Authent Mask is already available on Menard stores, or for avid online shoppers like me, they sold it exclusively on Sociolla.

PURE PERFECTION FACIAL

Literally, I did. Thank you to Sampar Indonesia, I was invited to try their facial.

Quite an experience, really, I was dead tired after I finished my shooting contract, and that tiredness shown all over my face. Just check out my ‘before’ facial face. Dull, blemishes everywhere and those dark circles were just really really bad, thanks to lack of rest (read: sleep). 

I didn’t know that Sampar Boutique Store in Mall Kota Kasablanka, Jakarta, Indonesia had a booth for facial. Now I do know that they have one inside the boutique. But caution: you have to book your facial days before as they only have one room to accommodate your facial needs. If you know your skin type, then you just mention it to the therapist. But if you’re clueless, the therapist will check your skin condition and decide what kind of facial will be perfect for you.

Since I have the oiliest skin one can only imagine, I was offered a PURE PERFECTION Facial. The name came from one of the SAMPAR’s range especially created for blemish-prone skin. As most facial, the therapist started with cleansing, toning, peeling, massage and masking. I love how they use hot towels between those steps and the face massage (it went through the back, arms and legs too!) was heavenly, I felt so relaxed afterwards. And I really did enjoy the essential oils scent which the therapist applied while massaging (FYI, she said that the oils were not for sale in the boutique).

The star product that I personally believe made my pores shrink instantly is PORELESS MAGIC PEEL. As Sampar didn’t believe in harsh scrubbing (and so do I), I love how the creamy texture glides smoothly and made my skin felt smooth and looked poreless (just check out my ‘after’ pic above). And two thumbs up for no pimples pinching at SAMPAR. Yeay for that!

I really recommend this facial by SAMPAR, if I can go once a week as the therapist recommended me, I so would. So far, they have four treatments available: Essentials for normal to dry skin, Pure Perfections for oily and blemish-prone skin, City of Light for brightening and Age-Antidote for anti aging. If you’re into facial that much, go for the packages as it’s really worth it.
