A VIEW FROM JAKARTA FASHION WEEK 2013 FRONT ROW: DAY 7 AT DEWI FASHION KNIGHTS

It should’ve been the closing show for the whole fashion week, but due through unfriendly weather in Jakarta, there’ll be more shows until next Monday, November 12, 2012.

I can say Dewi Fashion Knights is the most anticipated show at Jakarta Fashion Week every year, when local socialites, fashion people and celebrities flocked together in one tent. Themed “The Next Chapter” there were 5 designers chosen by Dewi Magazine: Oscar Lawalata, Deden Siswanto, Ghea Panggabean, Sapto Djojokartiko and Priyo Octaviano.

Deden came up with his own perception of Javanese culture, wayang kulit for his men and women collection. Priyo was in “Ultra Mod” mode with the deconstructive, edgy and modern design, also for men. Digital Print technology was used at Ghea’s collection. Oscar “My name is 20’s” theme did what it said, the 20’s style with flapper dresses in bright colors and silent movies for the backdrop. And Sapto, thank God he came up with more wearable collection (including the shoes) this year. Somehow Sapto’s headpieces worn by models, reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw’s lace headpiece from Trivial that she wore at Stanford’s (his gay best friend) wedding (remember?).

Personally, I’m surprised to see quite a lot of men’s collection this year, but well, men has to be fashionable too, correct?

A GLIMPSE FROM JAKARTA FASHION WEEK 2013: DAY 3

Sponsored by Samsung, two of the very talented Indonesian designers, Auguste Soesastro and Oscar Lawalata presented their collection for Spring Summer 2013.

Auguste went first showing his signature style: clean, structured, simple with basic colors that so ready to wear. Being as humble and simple as he is, he even let the model went free without fake eyelashes. Wow, there’s always the first time for something, right?

As for Oscar, he’s really into art deco and it showed in his line which seems to be focused in the constructive pattern with geometric design. Using materials such as tule, wool, cotton and our very own, batik, his collection is attractively modern.
