UPDATE ON MY FUNGAL-ACNE SAFE SKINCARE ROUTINE (PART ONE: AM ROUTINE)

Yes, I have different morning and night routine (and products, too), so let’s break them down on different post. Please note that they’re all fungal-acne safe (based on skincarisma.com checking). Let’s do my morning routine first, shall we?

Wash with mild gentle foaming wash (DHC Morning Face Wash)

Pyunkang Yul Acne Toner (this is not an exfoliating toner, but I still use hydrating toner after this, just to be safe)

Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner (it might feel tacky at first, but after a few taps, you will know why this is my favorite essence)

Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella Asiatica 100 Ampoule (this big baby lasts forever!)

Glossier Super Pure Serum (works like a charm under makeup due to its’ texture, this is my third bottle so far)

Innisfree Orchid Eye Cream (it doesn’t make my eyes watery like most of eye cream I’ve tried, and it becomes a base so my under eyes concealer won’t look patchy or sits on the lines)

Iunik Centella Calming Gel Cream (contains silicone, that’s why I use this as morning moisturizer)

Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel SPF 50+ PA++++ (super love this sunscreen, no scent, no white cast, light gel texture. I already restock on my second bottle).

DOUBLE TONING FOR FUNGAL-ACNE

As important as double cleansing, people!

My current double-toning products

After that double cleanse, using toners are critical. Why? Because they’ll help to remove any impurities left behind by cleansers. But, seriously, do we need two toners to do that? Well, if you have problematic skin like me (read: prone to fungal-acne and closed comedones), you might need both, Exfoliating Toner and Hydrating Toner.

You see, exfoliating toner is like one level up from ordinary toners. Most of them have additional acids that can help clean away those dead skin cells, improving rough skin texture and dullness. This alone can be tough for some, so need to get extra hydration from fellow toner.

Just like the name stated, hydrating toner was made to hydrate. Not just that, think of it as a booster for more steps after (essence, serum, ampoule).

And….just like double cleanse, personally I only do double toning once a day, for my PM Routine. Trust me, I’ve tried to do it twice a day, but ended up over-exfoliating and aggravate those fungal-acne.

Current HG Exfoliating Toner. Expensive like hell, but worth every drop.

So how to double tone exactly? Easy. Exfoliating toner: use with cotton pads.

I like this because it’s unscented and not sticky

Hydrating toner: use your hands and tap

Then follow by essence, serum, ampoule, eye cream, moisturizer and SPF (for AM)

SAFE WASH-OFF MASK FOR FUNGAL ACNE

Back to fungal acne topic, even though I can say I am pretty much free from them (yeay!).

If you follow me on IG, you’d know that I’m not a big fan of sheet mask. I’ve tried a few, but immediately disliked them. I can’t stand the slippery feel of it, the excess essence, basically everything. And most of the sheet masks I’ve tried were not categorized as fungal acne safe on skincarisma.com. And I read somewhere that wearing sheet mask can increase the temperature of our skin (this is not ideal if you are prone to breakouts like me). Rising temperature on skin can actually increase the bacteria count on the surface of the skin (read: even better breeding ground for the fungus). So, bye sheet mask.

These are my current wash-off masks that’s save for fungal-acne according to skincarisma.com (I alternate, obviously):

LEEGEEHAAM GROW MATCHA CLAY PACK (IDR 255K)

DSCF7210 copy

Pros:
It spreads easily
Scandinavian-feel jar packaging
Only needs 10 minutes to dry

Cons:
Quite Pricey

NATURE REPUBLIC BAMBOO CHARCOAL MUD PACK (IDR 80K)

DSCF7212 copy

Pros:
Its’ ingredients list (Kaolin, Bentonite, Charcoal Powder, Sea Salt)
Only takes 10 minutes to dry.
If I need a deep clean feeling, this is my go-to mask.
Super affordable price.

Cons:
Too hard to squeeze out from the tube. Maybe they should reconsider to use jar packaging instead.

LA ROCHE-POSAY EFFACLAR SEBO-CONTROLLING MASK (SGD 25.90)

DSCF7211 copy.jpg

Pros:
It only needs 5 minutes.
My go to mask if I’m too tired at night.

Cons:
Hard to find online, because they don’t carry this brand in Indonesia. A friend bought it for me in Watson’s Singapore.
Scented, so those who are sensitive to fragrances, better watch out.
With this crazy conversion rate to dollars, this is quite pricey.

How to include clay mask in your regime?

  • For myself, I believe once a week is good enough to deep cleanse. Don’t go overboard, as this is not your everyday skincare routine.
  • I prefer to do this at night, after double-cleanse step.
  • Let the mask dry according to the suggested time. Don’t let it sit for too long, as it might start sucking up natural oils on our face.
  • Use warm water to make it easier to rinse.
  • Finish with your next step of skincare routine.
