REVIEW: ROLLOVER REACTION BATLASH! EYELASH PERFECTOR

Introducing the latest product from one of my favorite local brand.

It’s rare that a local beauty brand launch mascara, since there are lots of world players on this crowded beauty market. So, congrats to Rollover Reaction team.

This mascara only available in shade CARBON, which is a dark black.

They named this “Eyelash Perfector” instead of a good ol’ plain “Mascara”. So, what’s the formulation? Well, it contains copolymer that supposedly laminates every single lash, withstand water and smudging. Yet, it can easily be removed with lukewarm water. It doesn’t contain UV absorbent, paraben, mineral oil, synthetic fragrance and colorant.

Check out the brush. It comes with a helix-shaped brush, a three dimensional curved brush to mimic natural eye shape, and also to create curl & volume. So yes, this can be categorized as a curl & volume mascara. This brush is also make it easier to reach for the corner lash by using its’ tip.

Having a typical Asian’s lashes (read: dead straight), I need curl & definitely need volume for my sparse lashes. Result is natural looking lashes, with no clump with one application. Not sure if it’s waterproof, but it didn’t smudge on me (and I have very oily eyelids). And it’s really easy to wash off at the end of the day.

REVIEW & SWATCHES: ROLLOVER REACTION DI KALA SENJA

This month, during Java island’s electricity black out, I attended the launch event of Rollover Reaction’s latest collaboration with Putri Marino, famous Indonesia’s actress who also wrote a killer poem on her IG. And the illustrator behind it is Rachel Ajeng, famous illustrator-painter.

So, what’s in the collection? Well, Di Kala Senja actually embodies sunset, just like Putri’s personalities: bright, warm and genuine. That’s why this collection features two new shades to add to Rollover Reaction’s Chunky! Lip Crayon (read my previous review here). Only the outer packagings are different from the previous Chunky! But the lip crayon inside is the same black matte pencil. And mind you, these are limited edition collection, so better get them before they ran out.

Since I’ve talked about the texture and finish about Chunky! Already, let’s just jump right in to the shades and swatches.

KALA: This is my favorite shade, it’s a nude brown with a hint of orange.
SENJA: It’s a deep terracotta red shade.

Somehow, these both lip shades look darker in real life. By the way, you can use these as cheek tint, too if you’re a master of doing it. I have to admit I am suck at doing other blush format than powder. So, I am using these strictly as my lip color only.

REVIEW: ROLLOVER REACTION CUSHION COMPACT SPF 27 TINTED MOISTURIZER

Thanks Rollover Reaction team for sending me this PR Kit before they even launch this on March 25, 2019.

So, is it a cushion? Or is it a tinted moisturizer? Or both?

Use the puff to apply
My given shade is the lightest (perfect shade) Custard Tart

You see, cushion is ‘the house’ for the liquid inside (it is a packaging format). Most brands filled it with liquid foundation. But being Rollover Reaction, they filled it with tinted moisturizer. To tell you the truth, I was being skeptical at first, because I thought this is going to be one sheer base like most tinted moisturizer out there. Boy, I was wrong!

I only use one layer! No concealer, no filter!

This didn’t just cover well, but (I guess because one of the ingredient is caffeine) it perked up my complexion. And since this is also formulated with sunscreen SPF27, you can carry this for touch-ups during the day. Reapply over makeup and voila! You can get sun protection all day too.

Comes in 3 adaptable shades. Names inspired by Asian desserts.

But, talking about the ingredients, I’ve noticed Stearic Acid on the list down below. According to SkinCarisma.com, it is a fungal-acne trigger. So better watch out if you are prone to fungal-acne.

You’ll enjoy this if:

  • You are not feeling like going heavy on foundation
  • You love natural-looking cushion (not dewy nor matte)
  • You like versatile products that can go with you anywhere (thanks to its’ cute packaging)
  • You expect medium to high coverage tinted moisturizer in a compact
  • You want your skin to look ‘real’ not made up

2019 SKIN RESOLUTIONS

Yes folks, it’s almost 2019. Thought I’ll share my skin resolutions, after going through the ups and downs of my skin condition.

If you’ve been reading my blog or following my IG, you’ll know that I went through fungal acne. Fortunately, I survived. Since then, I was a bit paranoid about skincare.Through some own research, I found cosdna and skincarisma which helped me a lot to find skincare products which suited my sensitive fungal-acne prone skin. And also through that time, I learned about a few ingredients to avoid for fungal acne sufferer.

Without further adieu, here are my 2019 skin resolutions:

ALWAYS READ THE INGREDIENTS LIST BEFORE PURCHASING

If I shop online, I’d be fine because I did lots of research first before clicking that BUY button. But, if I shop offline, there’s going to be some problems. I got attracted to nice packaging and promotions (LOL), so most of the time I forgot to read the ingredients and went straight to cashier. Yes, this impulsive habit needs to stop.

NOT TO BE BORED WITH THE SAME PRODUCT

This is hard, when this world seems to bombard us with new products on daily basis. Of course, I got tempted to try new stuffs, which might not work on my sensitive, fungal acne prone skin. But in the end, even though I’m bored, I will always go back purchasing things that worked. 

REMIND MYSELF THAT ALL IS DIFFERENT

I tend to believe, if one product did good on my skin, then I will trust that brand and keep buying the other products from that one brand. Meanwhile, as we knew it, it’s a rare thing. One product might work, while the others not so much.

WILL TRY MORE LOCAL SKINCARE BRANDS (IF ANY)

It’s already hard to find Korean, Japan, US or French skincare products that are safe for fungal acne. And it’s harder to find local ones. So, I wish there are more local brands that will create skincare products which are safe for fungal acne sufferer. 

MORE MERCY ON NECK

Yes, my poor neglected neck. Too much concentration on fixing the face, but forgetting the neck. I’ll try my best to do more moisturizing and anti-aging skincare routine for my neck.

REVIEW: ROLLOVER REACTION MATA HARI

Another collaboration collection from one of my favorite local brands. This time, they collaborated with Asmara Abigail (known as an actress) and Talitha Maranila (known for her artworks). It is a gold collection, wearable luxury that anyone can afford.

When the words Mata Hari join together, they mean ‘sun’. But, this is different. Apparently this collection was inspired by the one and only, Mata Hari (yes, that charming and mysterious exotic dancer) from the 1900’s. If you google Mata Hari, you’d be as fascinated as I am, especially if you’re into that glam-spy thing. Anyway, back to the Mata Hari Collection from Rollover Reaction. It consists of two tubes of Liquid Eye Tint, named (literally Mata and Hari). I believe this is the most extravagant but still wearable and easy to pull off collection from the ever-minimalist brand.

HYDRATING FACE MIST

With aloe vera, oat and rose as its’ main ingredients, this is literally hydrating as they claimed. We can use this before makeup and/or as setting spray. Dermatologically Tested.

Packaging: Outer box-colorful. It comes in a 105ml plastic transparent bottle with a simple yet modern design.

Texture: light pink shade water, but don’t worry it won’t show on skin.

Scent: super subtle scent of rose and aloe. Love.

Verdict: I use this as hydrating toner after my exfoliating toner. It’s very cooling and perfect for layering under makeup. And best part, it didn’t break me out (I’m surprised to see this listed already on skincarisma.com and it’s safe for fungal acne, YEAY!).

FACE WIPES

Micellar infused tissue to gently remove dirt & makeup. Alcohol free. Gentle on face, yet powerful for waterproof mascara. Infused with cucumber as natural moisturizer, collagen to keep elasticity in check and vitamin A. No Paraben, No Alcohol. Dermatologically Tested.

Packaging: outer layer with colorful design. Inner layer: white with simple and modern design. Consists of 25 sheets.

Texture: non-grainy wet tissues. It’s the perfect amount of wetness (not droopy and not slimy).

Scent: subtly scented like cucumber.

Verdict: it cleansed well, waterproof eyeliner, liquid lipstick, foundation and all. But it left a bit foamy residue on skin.

LIP BALM

Honey and Cloudberry. We know honey is good as natural moisturizer, but how about cloudberry? Apparently, cloudberry is high in antioxidant. This lip balm also contains lemon and grape fruit.

Packaging: outer layer-colorful. Inside is a cute little pink tube of 15gr lip balm.

Texture: quite balmy when pressed out from the tube. When applied, it glides and melt beautifully on lips.

Scent: smells like candies with no sweet taste. Super love.

Verdict: it gives slight fresh pink tint on the lips, very moisturizing and perfect for filling up those dry cracks on lips.

MY MAKEUP DIET

As my skin is getting healed from fungal-acne, I am trying my best to stay out of any heavy makeup (read: full-coverage foundation). In fact, every Saturday and Sunday (read: non-working days), I try my best to go foundation free. If I need a rest from my working days, so should my skin.

To tell you the truth, I feel better without my foundation on nowadays. Not that I want to flaunt my better skin, but I feel like…if you don’t have anything much to cover, why bother? I used to pile on layers of concealers and foundations on my skin just to cover my uneven texture. But now I realized it was like pouring salt to the sea. Base can’t cover bumps and uneven skin. Great skin are the best base we could ever have, trust me.

Current faves:

  • Face Powder by Lizzie Parra: this super light powder really sets foundation beautifully and effortlessly to a natural matte finish.
  • Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation: recommended by Simple Skincare Science for fungal acne sufferers. It doesn’t feel heavy on skin with a light coverage.
  • Lakme 9 to 5 Pure Rouge Blusher: super intense blush, one dip is enough to cover one cheek. Because its’ long lasting power, I also use this as my eyeshadow.
  • Etude House Curl Fix! Long Lash Mascara: not a cheap Korean mascara, for sure. But this really did what it claims, long and curl. I love the short wand, very easy to apply.
  • Rollover Reaction Chunky! Lip & Cheek Crayon in Maccio: I left the liquid matte lipstick hype already, and opt for a subtle ones. I love this mid-toned pink shade and the creamy but not sticky texture (I skipped lip balm if I use this).

Always got excited when Rollover Reaction, one of my favorite local brands launched something new. These included.

WHAT ARE THESE?
Well, as the name stated, they are primarily lip crayons. But these can also be used on cheeks and eyes.

PACKAGING
Sleek black matte crayon tube. When in a rush, it’s kind of hard to open and twist the cap open. But, I love how the tip is round and chubby, I believe it’s easier to draw along the cupid lines.

HOW TO APPLY
Our fingers are the best tool, trust me! Apply directly on lips and cheeks then blend with fourth finger. On lids, take some with your index finger and tap along the eyelids.

FEEL & TEXTURE
Lately, I was not in the mood for liquid matte lipstick, so these are the winner for me. It has satin finish but not shiny, feel very moist but ain’t greasy. I applied lip balm for swatches above, but I feel if you want to skip, it won’t be drying. They are not long-lasting, but if you like stain, these will leave a nice-looking stain after awhile.
