BEST K-BEAUTY SKINCARE PRODUCTS FOR FUNGAL ACNE

Been to Seoul, South Korea and what I saw there was really eye-opener. If you see the K-Drama and all the actors & actresses have flawless, poreless and unblemished skin, trust me, those who sold street-food as a living in Seoul, have exactly the same skin. They are fortunate to have such a blessed skin, it’s in their genes.

ME IN SEOUL (CAN YOU GUESS WHERE I WAS?)

However, I do have to admit that their K-beauty skincare products are the best and highly-effective for toners, essences, hydration and sunscreens. They are also great at super fast innovation (new ingredients) and good-looking packaging. As for actives, personally I’d prefer the western brands, (again) based on my experiments.

So, here’s my round up for K-beauty skincare products that are safe for Fungal Acne prone skin.

ESSENCE: AMORE PACIFIC VINTAGE SINGLE EXTRACT ESSENCE, I’M FROM MUGWORT ESSENCE

TONER: SOMEBYMI AHA BHA PHA 30 DAYS MIRACLE TONER, DEAR KLAIRS SUPPLE PREPARATION UNSCENTED TONER

CLEANSER: HEIMISH ALL CLEAN GREEN FOAM, PYUNKANG YUL ACNE FACIAL CLEANSER

AMPOULE: CNP LABORATORY MUGENER AMPOULE, LEEGEEHAAM GROW VITA PROPOLIS AMPOULE (RENAME TO DR CEURACLE ROYAL VITA PROPOLIS 33 AMPOULE)

THE UNDER THE RADAR KOREAN SKINCARE PRODUCTS I LOVE

As you might probably know, I do enjoy trying new skincare products (still, even though I do have sensitive and fungal-acne prone skin). Somehow, I ended up purchasing non-mass Korean brand, instead of those well-known mass brands which are already available here in Indonesia (like Etude House, The Face Shop, The Saem etc).

That’s why, searching for new stuffs to try is a bit challenging. But it’s a fun-filled challenge for me. Looking for the brand itself, screening through ingredients, enjoying the look of their packaging, how would I say no to these?

They claim 3 promises: Ingredient Transparency (check!), Honest Materials (check!) and No Harmful Additives (also check!). Currently only own their Mugwort Essence, just because it only contains 100% Artemisia Princeps Extract aka Mugwort and nothing else. This Mugwort has been widely known for treating acne, troubled and irritated skin.

I am drawn to their clean-look packaging, they look so Nordic (big love). And I appreciate skincare brands which are consistent in making only skincare (not expanding to makeup). This cult Korean skincare brand is known for using cactus oil and they also consistent of their cactus scent, which is prominent in their products. Some might feel off because of the scent, but I love it. So, when they launch their body care products, of course I went on to buy (BTW, these soap, body lotion and body oil are the most expensive body care products I’ve ever purchased, LOL).

BENTON

If the name seems familiar, well…it because they named this brand after the Brad Pitt’s movie “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”. Benjamin Button = Benton (get it?). Obviously I wasn’t drawn because of the name, but I’m sold at their Snail Bee Line. Yes, my skin apparently reacted well with both ingredients, Snail Secretion Filtrate and Bee Venom.

PYUNKANG YUL

The brand was launched in early 2016. Pyunkang is actually a renowned Korean hospital that specializes in treating atopic skin ailments. With medical experience like this, of course I am sold. Almost all of their products have minimal ingredients, but my favorite will be these two: their Essence Toner and Acne Toner from their Acne Line.

UPDATE ON MY FUNGAL-ACNE SAFE SKINCARE ROUTINE (PART ONE: AM ROUTINE)

Yes, I have different morning and night routine (and products, too), so let’s break them down on different post. Please note that they’re all fungal-acne safe (based on skincarisma.com checking). Let’s do my morning routine first, shall we?

Wash with mild gentle foaming wash (DHC Morning Face Wash)

Pyunkang Yul Acne Toner (this is not an exfoliating toner, but I still use hydrating toner after this, just to be safe)

Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner (it might feel tacky at first, but after a few taps, you will know why this is my favorite essence)

Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella Asiatica 100 Ampoule (this big baby lasts forever!)

Glossier Super Pure Serum (works like a charm under makeup due to its’ texture, this is my third bottle so far)

Innisfree Orchid Eye Cream (it doesn’t make my eyes watery like most of eye cream I’ve tried, and it becomes a base so my under eyes concealer won’t look patchy or sits on the lines)

Iunik Centella Calming Gel Cream (contains silicone, that’s why I use this as morning moisturizer)

Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel SPF 50+ PA++++ (super love this sunscreen, no scent, no white cast, light gel texture. I already restock on my second bottle).

EASY & AFFORDABLE SKINCARE FOR FUNGAL-ACNE PRONE SKIN

Thank you to my IG followers who always inspired me to create my blog content based on their questions. And one of the most asked is: “I want to develop a skincare routine for my fungal-acne prone skin but everything is expensive, how can I create one that’s easy to my pocket?”

Well, it is quite a challenge to find skincare products below IDR200K each that’s safe for fungal-acne. But, after all the soul-searching (on skincarisma & cosdna of course), and I included some of local brands (because they’re easier to find), here’s what I found!

MAKE UP REMOVER: NAMEERA PURELY BRIGHT MICELLAR WATER (IDR67K for 100ML)
CLEANSER: ELSHESKIN DEEP CLEANSING SENSITIVE (IDR90K for 60ML)
TONER: PYUNKANG YUL ACNE TONER (IDR130K for 150ML)
ESSENCE : NAMEERA HYDRATING GLOW ESSENCE WATER (IDR140K for 110ML)
SERUM: THE ORDINARY NIACINAMIDE 10% + ZINC 1% (IDR125K for 30ML)
AMPOULE: LEEGEEHAAM GROW VITA PROPOLIS AMPOULE (IDR185K for 15ML)
MOISTURIZER: INNISFREE ALOE REVITAL SOOTHING GEL (IDR101K FOR 300ML)
SUNSCREEN: SKIN AQUA UV SUPER MOISTURE MILK SPF50+ PA++++ (IDR45K for 40GR)
SPOT TREATMENT: SARI AYU INTENSIVE ACNE CARE (IDR24K for 12ML)

Still under the budget? Well, you can skip some steps like essence. So go straight to serum after toner. And you can skip ampoule too. Basically, all you need is: cleanser, toner, moisturizer and SPF (in the morning) or spot treatment (at night). So feel free to adjust according to your budget.

REVIEW: PYUNKANG YUL ACNE

DSCF6960 copy.jpg

My first encounter with Pyunkang Yul was with their first and basic line, which comes in their iconic dark blue bottles. I’ve purchased their Essence Toner, Ato Cleanser and Mist Toner, and I love them all. What attracted me to this Korean brand at the first place? Some of their products only use minimal ingredients, and they removed all non-essential chemicals from their formulations. None of their products I’ve tried made me break out or worsen my fungal acne.

So, I am really excited when they just launched their ACNE line. Thanks to Style Korean, they sent me a box filled with ACNE line range, for their “Try Me, Review Me”. Well, as the name stated, PYUNKANG YUL ACNE specifically targets acne and claim to treat them effectively. What I love about this line, most of them are using Niacinamide and Centella Asiatica (two of my favorite and safe ingredients). Unlike their first line, these come in white packaging and bottles. Looks very Scandinavian.

So, what’s in ACNE line? And how to use them in the correct order?

FACIAL CLEANSER

Texture: almost runny, milky gel, produced light bubbles.

Feel: super clean and comfortable. Left my skin feeling matte but not dry/tight.

Scent: smells like plastic bottle, but not annoying.

Tip: be careful when you open the cap (if you put it on vertically), as it might slurp downward easily.

TONER

Texture: clear, runny, transparent exfoliating toner

Feel: easy to absorb without leaving any stickiness and doesn’t create any foam. Cooling effect on skin and comfortable to use with round cotton pad. This is a mild exfoliating toner as I didn’t experience redness afterward.

No scent.

Tip: try with cotton pad at first round, and do second round without (just pat them on skin)

SPOT CREAM

spotcream

All green checks on skincarisma.com.

Claim to fame: quickly soothing acne within 12 hours.

Really? Well, this works to prevent acne getting bigger. So, if you feel like that tiny bumps going to turn into a huge zit, zap this spot cream stat! I apply this at night, because it can leave a thin white matte stain on skin. This is a spot treatment, anyway. But don’t worry, it won’t make your future acne dry. It just flatten them away, seriously.

CREAM

cream

Don’t be fooled by the name, because it’s a moisturizer which comes in a clear gel texture.

Feel: light, easy to absorb, though a bit sticky but made my skin looks matte.

And in this heat, my skin loves this moisturizer. It feels cooling and great for oily skin. I think this is a good primer for my base makeup.

DRESSING MASK PACK

Everybody, this is not a sheet mask. This comes in four square sheets, just like if we want to do Toner Mask technique. Since I am used to do toner mask with my thin square cotton pads, these sheets are thicker, therefore easier to slip down while half dry. I recommend using this while lying down. Bonus, this mask pack is categorized as safe for fungal acne on skincarisma.com.

I wish I could leave them on for more than 10 minutes, but no. Follow the instruction on the product info is the best thing to do.

OVERALL REVIEW: This line is a potent acne barrier. After about two weeks of using them, my hormonal acne didn’t flare up, my fungal acne seems to be friends with the products, too. And the fact that they’re fragrance-free, helped. A lot. I also enjoy the simple four steps, cleanse, tone, treat and balancing. Sometimes, it’s best to practice a simpler skin-care routine (especially if you’re prone to acne and fungal acne like me). Because we don’t want to confuse our skin with too many products and ingredients at once, right?
