THE GREAT AND BEAUTIFUL

Ahh…the never ending story of the wizard and the witches. Now comes in palettes.

Yup, Urban Decay launched two limited edition palettes, inspired by the Disney’s movie, “OZ, The Great and Powerful”. The movie will be out this March and Mila Kunis will star as Theodora and Michelle Williams as Glinda.

Meanwhile, the two palettes named (what else?) The Glinda Palette and The Theodora Palette, will be in stores (not here in Jakarta of course), on January 25, 2013. Comes in a sleek tin with the OZ artwork, each featured 6 shades of eye shadows, with lip gloss & (UD’s must have) 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil.

They’re supposedly enable us to recreate makeup looks just like Mila and Michelle in the movie. Ahh….choices…choices…even for makeup we have to choose between good and evil.

MOISTURIZING DENIM? SERIOUSLY?

image

Don’t be fooled by the casual shot by Lizzie Jagger above. It’s not what you think it is.

The daughter of Mick Jagger teamed up with Wrangler for the brand’s new line, named Denim Spa. The latest invention and very innovative denim from the brand that exists since 1947, indeed. How do this jeans work, really? Reportedly, the jeans are sprayed with cosmetic microcapsules of moisturizing treatment during manufacture, then heated to bind to the denim fibre, to make sure a slow release of the product even when it have been washed. The friction of the skin against the tiny microcapsules will slowly breaks them down, making it an even application while used.

Surely not our typical denim wash, there’ll be three hydrating finishes to choose from. Smooth Legs for anti-cellulite, Olive Extract for moisturizing and Aloe Vera for sensitive skin. Can we skip our body lotion instead and just slip these on?

It will be available on asos.com by January 28.

FINISH WHAT I STARTED

First empties of 2013.

1.    KIEHL’S MIDNIGHT RECOVERY CONCENTRATE

Not just an ordinary night serum, it’s the core of pure essential oils which I believe make my skin looks better over night. The clear oil texture might be a bit hard to absorb as it left a filmy layer on skin, that’s why one drop is enough for the whole face and one extra drop for neck area. Smell like lavender, the droplets bottle was great to use when it’s full, but hard to get when almost empty. Repurchase? Yes, it does last longer than I thought, so good price for the 30ml bottle night serum.

2.    FRESH BLACK TEA AGE-DELAY FACE SERUM

Is it just me? I believe in natural products, I really do. But, I believe most of them took longer to show their results. As an instant believer on almost everything (right down to coffee in the morning, yup, I’m that awful), this face serum didn’t show any result after I finished the whole bottle. Maybe the second bottle will do? Repurchase? Not sure, as Fresh is not available in my home town, anyway.

3.    MAYBELLINE NEW YORK THE ONE BY ONE VOLUM’ EXPRESS WATERPROOF MASCARA

The bright pink tube attracted me and the brush wand amazed me. It really did what it said, separating eye lashes one by one. It didn’t clump when it was newly opened but getting drier when it was almost finish. Repurchase? Yup.

4.    URBAN DECAY EYESHADOW PRIMER POTION

One of my ever lasting favorite product. It didn’t dry out until the last attempt, and make eye shadows stay put all day until I take it off. Considering that I have oily eye lids, it made them more matte and the colors of my eye shadows appeared more intense. Repurchase? Definitely.

5.    TRISH MCEVOY EYE BASE ESSENTIALS

I wish I could say the same about this eye shadow primer as well. Although I might say that it made my eye shadows stay put and looking matte, but the texture is too thick, it was hard to blend. And, it dried out too quickly before the whole tube is finished. Repurchase? No.

WHAT’S ON JANUARY 2013 COVERS

Here’s what I have to say.

Rita Ora on Glamour UK : Love Rita!! Christian Dior looks great on her.

Drew Barrymore on Allure : New mama looks tired. Forgiven (been there, done that).

Fei Fei Sun on Vogue Italy : Steven Meisel rocks once more. Asian models rule!!

Gwen Stefani on Vogue US : 8 years absence from Vogue’s cover? Why???

Anne Hathaway on Glamour US : Let’s just say it’s refreshing to see her with casual ensembles. Finally.

SHADES OF A FAMILY

Or in this case, a “Modern Family”.

Nail polishes inspired by a TV Series? Why not? It’ll be 2013 soon.

Nicole by OPI offered a perfect way to express the diversity and individuality from each character in “Modern Family” from Alex to Gloria. This line include 14 colors and will be launch in the US by January 2013.

FLOWER POWER

Just in time when her contract with CoverGirl cosmetics will be expire in January 2013, Drew Barrymore will launch her makeup line.

Named Flower (just like her production company), it’ll be available at more than 1500 Walmart stores and walmart.com in January 2013. 181 products for face, eyes, lips and nails with prices ranging from US$5 to US$14, it sure fits for the beauty masses, just like Drew wanted.

Reportedly, Drew used the same formulas that expensive beauty brands use, right down to the packaging. Each item is encased in white and rose gold plastic which look luxe with an affordable prices.

Partnered with manufacturer, Maesa Group, Flower is expected to generate US$50 million in sales within the first year of its launch. Wow, that’s what I called positive thinking.

FOR THE SAKE OF BLOW KISSES

Selena Gomez really likes to blow her kisses, don’t you think? And for a girl who loves to blow kisses that much, manicure is very much important.

That’s why I’m not surprised that she’s following her former boyfriend’s path in nail polish collection. As we might remember, JB had his nail polish collection with Nicole by OPI. Her collection, however, will be out later on January 2013. Get ready for 14 colors from bold, sparkles till girly colors named from her movies and hit songs like “Love Song” and “Spring Break”. Just in time for Spring, indeed.

CARRIE BRADSHAW, CIRCA 1984

I have to admit, I miss Sex And The City. But, who doesn’t? This TV series will be the perfect antidote for die-hard SATC fashion groupies.

When I heard Candace Bushnell is going to make the prequel series based on the book “The Carrie Diaries” with the former writer and producer on SATC, Amy B. Harris, I couldn’t be more thrilled. Yes, I am a true Team Carrie circa SJP era, but I supposed it’s going to be a fun nostalgic walk down memory lane, imagining 16 years old Carrie in her senior year of high school at the early 1980’s.

AnnaSophia Robb is going to be Carrie in this hugely anticipated prequel, complete with those curly locks, tutus and high heels. Expect new cast of characters (she hasn’t met Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte by then), love interest (sorry, no Mr.Big), new location (this time it’s Connecticut) and last but definitely not least, Carrie’s fashion sense. Eric Daman who worked as Patricia Field’s assistant for three seasons of SATC, and the costume designer for Gossip Girl, will be in charge for everything young Carrie wore.  So far, reportedly, he’s been using Marc by Marc Jacobs and Derek Lam to name a few.

I’m sure there’ll be a lot of comparison between young Carrie and “THE” Carrie Bradshaw as we know and adore, but it’s going to be interesting to see how the adult Carrie was mold before Mr.Big era. Let’s just wait and see until the show debuts on January 2013.
