INSPECTOR (BEAUTY) GADGETS

Let’s talk about these revolutionary and weird looking beauty devices.

To tell you the truth, I only rely on one beauty gadget, my good old Clarisonic. I started to use them like a year ago, after I read a lot of fantastic reviews about the device that promised to clean our skin 6 times better than using our own hands. Since I rarely do facial, I decided to give it a try. God knows how clean my skin is, but what I experienced from using Clarisonic, all my skin care products seem to absorb better, and yes, it’s clearer.

So, if I have to buy another beauty gadgets, it will be:

1. NuFACE® ‘Trinity – Petal Pink’ Facial Toning Device: Claims to effectively improves skin’s appearance by stimulating our face. This handheld device also promised to increase product penetration by 47%, new cell growth by 500% and collagen+elastin to reduce crow’s feet and dark circles. Yes, it had me at dark circles!

2. Silk’n ‘Flash&Go’ Holiday Hair Removal Kit: Bye-bye unwanted hair. This home-use device use Home Pulsed Light Technology, which designed to provide proven long term hair removal results from the convenience at our own home, safely. They even promised the minimal discomfort after using this product as compared to waxing or professional laser treatment. Great, no more screaming at waxing table.

3. GLO Brilliant™ Personal Teeth Whitening Device: I don’t smoke, but I love tea and an addict for coffee. So, this gadget will surely help to deliver whiter teeth. It claims to give us up to eight shade changes and long lasting results. The first session might be tacky, but the more familiar we are with the gadget, next session will be faster and easier, so they said. Since I hate to go to the dentist to hear all those annoying sound from the drills, this kit is in my list.

*these 3 gadgets are available separately in Sephora and Nordstrom (in store and online)

GADGET TEMPTATION

Living in a digital era, I have to ask you: When was the last time you actually printed pictures from your digital camera?

Me: like 11 years ago. I know, right? The last photo album in my family is my son’s baby album. Now, every single shot, every memories are well kept inside my Macbook Air, or uploaded to facebook. Reason: don’t have time to print, nor to make the album which will end up sitting there with our books collection and a pile of dust. I’m just not that type, that’s why I consider myself lucky to live in a digital era.

But, this instant camera from FujiFilm, might change my mind. Since I love black, the previous member of the FujiFilm Instax family, Instax Mini 50S (released 2010) caught my eyes. It looks so elegant, comparing to the others which might look a little girly for some. Small and light enough to travel with, it includes macro lens that lets us to take great closeups (up to 30 cms), intelligent flash which will illuminates the surrounding details without washing out faces, two shutter release buttons so we don’t need to stretch for portrait or landscape pic, and most importantly, self timer.

The latest addition to the Instax Mini family, is the Instax Mini 8 (released September 2012). Available in 5 colors, it will create photos with a bright and soft look (which apparently preferred by female users) by manually adjusting the dial to “Hi-Key” mode (look at the sample pictures above).

I totally agree, that taking pictures should be a fun process, and one of this instant camera will be on my number one Christmas’ wish list this year.

FUN FACT: Instax Mini was first released by FujiFilm in 1998. The bright and soft look of instax photos is one of the factor for its popularity among teenage girls and women in their early 20’s who are unfamiliar with analog printing (from FujiFilm.com).

CAMERA MAKEOVER

Limited to 1500 pieces worldwide, Leica Camera unveiled a special edition of X2 Camera, designed by fashion designer Paul Smith.

British designer with signature bright stripes, is now bringing his brightness to the world of boring black cameras. Dazzling bright orange, popping brilliant yellow for the baseplate, and the green leather finish for the body. Check out the details with an engraved light bulb doodle. How cute is that?

And since it is Leica, it’s not just fun to look at. The technical specifications are as good as it looks (16.5 megapixels). Complete the whole thing with an exclusive strap and a camera protector made from premium calfskin. Reportedly to be sold in Hong Kong for HK$25.200.
