IF NATURAL MAKEUP IS YOUR THING…

You’ll love Bobbi Brown.

“I believe all women want to look like themselves, only prettier and more confident” – Bobbi Brown.

At the exclusive beauty bloggers event this week in Rustique, Plaza Senayan, Jakarta, me and fellow bloggers were properly introduced to the beauty brand made famous by a professional makeup artist which started her makeup line in 1991. Amanda, trainer for Bobbi Brown Indonesia explained, “It was very hard for Bobbi to find a natural color lipstick at that time. Everyone was into rock and roll, so red color was very in. That’s why she created a line of natural color lipsticks which debuted at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City.”

The makeup maven also created 10 step beauty, her simple 10 step (literally) makeup routine. Bobbi believes with the right knowledge and the right products, any woman can be her prettiest and most confident self. And here they are:
Step1 Corrector/Concealer
Step 2 Foundation
Step 3 Powder/Bronzer
Step 4 Blush
Step 5 Lipstick/Gloss
Step 6 Lip Liner
Step 7 Brows
Step 8 Eye Shadow
Step 9 Eye Liner
Step 10 Mascara

If 10 steps scared you, no worries, because Amanda also shared that we can always stop at step 6 if we’re short of time to do our makeup in the morning. As Bobbi herself believes that with blush and lipstick, we’re good to go. Interesting, right?

And always…always remember that a good healthy skin is an important base to any makeup, natural or not. So, never skip a good moisturizer, a good eye cream and last but definitely not least a balanced diet and life!

DON’T BE A FOOL WHEN IT COMES TO MAKEUP

On this April Fools’ Day, I’m going to share my Holy Grail when it comes to fool-proof makeup.

In my own term, fool-proof means practical yet it stands against Jakarta’s weather (which become more hot and humid these days).

In alphabetical order:
– Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo : as natural as real brows, I hate fake looking brows which created by some pencil.

– Bobbi Brown Concealer : it concealed well without cracking and works magically for that zit coverage.

– Chanel Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eyeshadow : palette of fun, just mix and blend to create any looks I desired.

– Guerlain Meteorites Pearls : for that radiant finish which somehow made my makeup seem more natural.

–  MAC Cosmetics Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation : let me tell you a little secret: once a beauty brand PR from other brand which also carried cosmetics line, bought this without hesitation. Need I say more?

– Maybelline New York Volum’ Express One by One Mascara : the chubby tube and brush at it’s best. No clumps when applied, no smudges while sweating.

– NARS Satin Lip Pencil : it lines, it fills, it doesn’t crack, it stays on.

– The Body Shop All In One Blusher : no need to touch up during day time, as its’ extra fine powder blended well and stay there until you wipe it off.

WEAR PINK PROUD

As we all know, the whole month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. This is the perfect month to show our ‘pink’ side.

The international symbol of breast cancer awareness, aka the pink ribbon made their debut in 1991 when the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in New York City race for breast cancer survivors.

In its latest report, the American Cancer Society says that 95% of new cases and 97% of breast cancer deaths occurred in women 40 years of age and older. It’s the fifth cause of death among women in the US. As we love to take care of ourselves, here’s something easy if you want to show some support to others and be a part of this exclusive month. Each October, many products especially beauty products are showing their extra love to fund research so more people will survive breast cancer. Here are some products which emblazoned with the famous pink ribbon.

WHITE RACCOON EYES

You remember this famous concealer mishap pictures of Nicole Kidman. A lesson for us mere mortals not to over do it on under eyes concealer.

I won’t lie, it feels good to know that even celebrities who have their own glam team can still experience make up mishaps. Yes, I know dark undereyes, panda eyes, raccoon eyes or whatever they called it can be such hell. But, there’s hope. Really. And please don’t copy Nicole Kidman’s makeup artist trick for her look above (most probably he or she is fired after Nic saw her own pic). The darker your under eyes circles doesn’t mean that you have to piled up on too light concealer and white powder.

Trick to avoid tricky eyes concealer:
Best choice is to choose one shade lighter than your own foundation, pat a little concealer with your ring finger and dust your ordinary face powder on top with brush. Personally, I’ll never put foundation on top of concealer, because it’ll intensify more fine lines. So if you do have fine lines under the eyes already, I suggest you to skip foundation on top of concealer. And if you have dry skin especially under the eyes, pick a liquid concealer, rather than the creamy ones. More on staying power, easier to blend in so it’ll appear more natural. Yellow tone concealers are your best bet if you want to cover the raccoon eyes naturally, too.
Here are my own items/favorites:
– Soap & Glory Trick & Treatment
– Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat
– Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit
– Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage

REST MY CASE

The beauty of cosmetics packaging. The beauty brands are working very hard to boost their sales and one of the factor to achieve that goal is to have a beautiful packaging which will attract many customers, including me.

How many times have you bought something because of its’ packaging? Maybe, you haven’t even read about the reviews yet, but you just fell in love with it you have to buy it asap? The feelings are very mutual here. It happened to me all the time. It’s even crazier if they are limited edition. I am sold. Here are my beautiful packaging collection.

HOW MANY SHOULD YOU HAVE?

These are my brushes. Yes, I used them daily. All of them. Surprised? You shouldn’t. Personally, I think brushes are investment. Just like my bags. I cleaned them weekly with baby shampoo (trust me, it’s the best for brushes). Well, some makeup artist believe that using our own fingers are enough for application, but they never mention that you can use your fingers to blend, right? So using brushes for blending is super important. I love MAC, Bobbi Brown and The Body Shop brushes for its ability to match my needs so far.
